Can anyone shed any light on this?

It was picked up on the 60K service. The service manager said it isnt uncommon and is nothing to worry about at the moment. Anyone else had this? Is it just general wear and tear in the gearbox?

Cheers

Was it just the usual ferrous bits on the magnetic drain plug or larger? If larger I would be a bit concerned, I believe it's not unknown for the ulta-hard skin on the surface of the case-hardened gear teeth to break away? (de-laminate?) If non-ferrous it could be synchromesh related.

Apparently they were small fragments found on the drain plug when the fluid was changed. Hopefully that means it was the 'nothing to worry about' option then!

That sounds pretty normal. I changed to Castrol Syntrax at around 15000 miles and there was a small amount of fine swarf on the magnet.

After the first change this is to be expected, you should hardly find any from then on.
