this might be a daft question, but I assume I'll need an 'Xbox -> optical' cable if I'm wanting to plug it into my home cinema amp for Dolby Digital 5.1?
If so anyone know the best place to buy one? cheers Neil |
I got mine from game for 20 squids although you'll also need an optical cable, mines not the xbox branded one :)

Just re read and i don't think my answer made much sense
You'll need a av lead there are two that i know of that have spif outputs microsoft one and a game (iirc) branded one, the game one is better in my opinion as it gives lots of outputs including one for projector :D, you'll then need a optical cable expect to pay 10 quid to 200 quid, i'd go with the tenner ;) Si |
cheers Si,
is it worth upgrading from RCA (my current setup) to Optical - is there really that much of an improvement? dabs.com seem to be the best for the optical cable at just under £8 Neil |
you won't get 5.1 if you don't just dolby prologic :)
Si |
yeah I realise that, just wondered if the Xbox in 5.1 was a big improvement over Pro logic?
|
Really does depend on what you watch but if it's sci fi stuff, war films, action hell yeah :D
Main differences between DD/DTS and Prologic is DTS/DD rear channel seperation, identical rms all speakers and full frequency 20hz - 20khz on former Prologic no rear seperation (more triangular movement of sound), usually front rms is seperated over both rears (ie fronts 70rms each rears 35rms each), not full frequency. use the advanced scart and attach the optical lead to it ................ 5:1 sound quite good for mechwarrior on line :D

I got mine from the sony shop - how ironic was that.
"excuse me, can I buy an optical cable for my microsoft xbox" |
