Brill day out (well morning out lol)

Lovely weather... nice bunch of ppl on it...

Went in the Land Rover to start with... Me and an other laydee (Sandy).. only the two of us! and Pete the instructor.
Had a load of fun in it.. as only two of us in 'our' group.. we went round the off road track twice each! :)
I could handle the LR ok :)

NOW..... The Prodrive STi... thats another story!
all I'm saying is.. I can't drive a rally car!
Sandy could... she was really good at it! a natural.
But me?? NO!

Brakes?? Brakes... what brakes...The car has no servo brakes.. so I wasn't using them enough!

Also im not telling you what the Prodrive Intructor said in the conclusion to my aottin in the car...
Impreza STi Rally Assessment

My score?????? 56/100 :(
I THINK THAT SAYS IT ALL!

lol

No proper rally cars (WR cars included) have servos on the brakes, you've just got to press harder! Kudos to the girlie for adapting to it though :)

logiclee 20 July 2003 06:43 PM

You will just have to stick to the track then Phil, you don't seem to bad at that ;) ;) :)

I have been on a couple of rally days, it's the left foot braking that does my head in. :)

greasemonkey 20 July 2003 06:53 PM

Start doing it in your road car when you can, and it'll soon be second nature :)

In fact, because your left foot's used to pressing hard on the clutch pedal, it'll probably adapt quicker to a hard, non-servoed brake pedal than your right one will!

I have been :D:D and the Brake servo IS diconnected to stop people panicing and slamming on the brake and sliding into a Barrier :(

Great day

GreaseMonkey,

I'm not too bad with regulating the pressure on the brake with my left foot, I do it all the time in my road car because I have a SMG gearbox so don't have a clutch. :)

It's just not second nature to balance a slide or drift with the lett foot dabbing the brake. Your brain is telling you its better to use your right foot and try and balance using the power. :)

Phil looks like we missed each other as i was on the afternoon session and you were on the morning session.

Saw you leave though (with all those grahpics all over the car you could hardly miss it).:D

Any i had such a wicked time even in the landrovers, and some of them hill were bloody steep. Best fun i've had at 5mph. :)

Well those STI7 were something else and i though it did pretty well, I had Pete Jackson as the instructor and learnt quite alot (asre out everywhere :D), anyway he awarded me 87\100 which isn't bad.

All i can say is i shate my pants when i got taken out in it afterwards by Pete and the look on my wifes face after he took her out in it was priceless.

Would def recommend this to anyone who is after a basic rally driving course.

Last but not least a BIG THANKS to ALL at PRODRIVE you made the day enjoyable for both us drivers and spectators.
