Outlook or Outlook Express?

OE

Tools > Options > Maintenance > Information Store location (IIRC)

Outlook

Can vary by OS.

Windows 2000 could be

Documents & Settings > username > Local Settings > Application Data > Microsoft > Outlook

Do a search by .pst to double check.

sorted found the pst file and went and got the backup utility to make a backup,

just need to check that import works from a blank machine

cheers

seeing as the question has been asked, I'll leap on it and ask a slightly different thing :D

Where does Outlook (2000, not express) store the "accounts" info? Never found this yet...

It's all done in the registry, under HK_Current_User IIRC.

"Windows Messaging Subsystem" is one of the keys to look for.
