Hi all,

Question, as its been been so hot receintly. How does the IC Water spray work on my 02 Sti, i.e is it automatic or manual?. I had a little friendly play with a Type-R today on the motorway and I was only just gaining on him. My car felt so flat in this 32* heat. I have PPP if that makes any difference.

Er manual isn't it? There's a button on the left hand side of the dash (at least there is on the STI8 - so I'm assuming yours is the same).

I reckon the best idea would be to rig up some kind of microswitch under the accelerator. Under hard acceleration it would then give you an automatic burst - or is that really too sad ? :)

I started a thread yesterday along similar lines.

It looks like the IC Spray is fully manual in the STI 8, my water level has certainly not gone down.

However Sumo Power can supply a replacement switch that will make the IC Spray automatic. I cam currently discussing the warrenty implications of this with my local dealership.

I thought the MY02 STi had the IC water spray but it was fully automatic and had no manual switch?

I also thought the MY02 STI had an automatic IC water spray, in fact my original question was why is the 02 auto and the 03 manual.

I don't have an 02 so can't confirm its function but I do have the 03 and can confirm that it is manual

Driven a couple of MY02 STi's both had manual watersprays.

Might also be worth adding some alcohol to your water mix as it helps with the cooling effect.

Just don't lick the I/C afterwards. ;)

Ive got a STI7,its a manual one on em.

a simple boost level activated switch would work well. I used to have one for my water injection system. It was adjustable, when the adjusted level was reached it would switch the pump on.

Why don't they use something like this standard:confused:

My STi5 has both Auto and Manual, the Auto is triggered directly from the ECU, it has an auto overide switch to stop it functioning. All this is standard STi kit that comes with the car.

I am not convinced the STi8 has an auto function if people are saying the bottle is still full in this weather. Why doesnt someone take one for a blat and then pull over and see if there is water around the Intercooler, mine gets soaked in the stuff if the IC activates.

I'm going to put a line on my bottle and not press the button. I will hope that the level goes down.

I thought I read somewhere on here that the PPP made it automatic, hence the question.

Mine goes down and I hardly use the manual button. Mike Wood did post on here at one time that it is Automatic and sprays when required. That for for the STI7 anyway, but I'd like to think that the STI8 is just the same.

Maybe its just a case where the thing don't think it needs any spraying done, I would suggest a good blatter round some wee country roads and then see what happens.

Look its auto, Mike Wood has said so and on a 300 mile round trip with intake temps sometimes at 65-75 degrees in traffic I used 1/4 of the bottle and no I did not press the button. :)

you can make the spray come on, on boost then off when off boost for about £40 and about 30mins of your time (or mine)
as i have a related business not sure if the mods will be happy with me for offering this service.
so if peeps mail me i will mail you back on how to do it.

Chris - Are you sure its on the left as mine is on the right in my STi8 ?

I'm not convinced they are automatic, just manual. There is nothing in the Prodrive literature that says it makes it auto once the PPP is fitted.
