Further to my recent Swissol polished STi8 pictures, this is the result of applying a further layer of protection to the paint-work.

200 quids worth of SCC breathable / waterproof car-cover:

Nice. The temptation to unveil your car in the morning in the style of a gameshow hostess must be too strong to resist :D

Alex_in_France 10 July 2003 05:35 PM

Blimey. Can you still see alright when you're driving?

PeterUK300 10 July 2003 05:40 PM

Watch it does not rub the paint work as it moves with the wind

Jamie2003 10 July 2003 05:42 PM

it amazes me an sti8 still looks as sexy as ever even with clothes on

It's on - tight.

It does not move very much at all, even in high wind as the fabric is not that light-weight.

I appraised every type of fabric that I could find, before buying this one, for exactly that reason - I wanted something that was durable (and would resist, for example, cats), waterproof (obviously), breathable (can't have it sweating under cover) and most of all - kind to the paint on the inside.

The fabric from SCC was by far the best on all accounts (though I guess polythene sheeting would probably be slightly more waterproof ;) ).

If you do want the ULTIMATE in car covers - then look no further than Carcoon. Check out www.carcoon.co.uk for the expensive details. A friend of mine bought one for his father to wrap up his Jag SS100 in. They're obviously not cheap, but short of drying, draining and shrink-wrapping the car it's the best you can get. I'd guess these are less cat and thief friendly than my SCC one though...

Wouldnt it be easier to just clear out the garage and use that?

monstermunch 10 July 2003 09:22 PM

Nice cover and yet another way of dealing with Gatso's :)

You live in rural Gloucestershire... add that to the fact that it's not an easy 2 min job putting it on or taking it off - and doing so would trigger the alarm.

...and as for the garage - Everyone knows that garages in modern houses aren't designed for cars, they're designed to be filled with clutter (including boxes of car cleaning gear). The car would probably just fit in, but then I'd probably never get the door open wide enough to get out. My Mitsi FTO wouldn't go through the doors - I tried.
