Has anyone used cardata, they keep phoning me saying they can sell my car for asking price, got people waiting. I pay £80 now then get £70 back when they sell it. They make a profit by offing loans to people buying. Not sure if there is some sort of conn here. Any experiences?

Monkeh 09 July 2003 06:33 PM

steer well clear from these people they are conartists !!

Ripped off thousands of people...

Mark Miwurdz 09 July 2003 06:34 PM

Steer clear - bunch of @rseholes!

Monkeh 09 July 2003 06:36 PM

Paulo P 10 July 2003 10:03 AM

I can't believe these barstewards are still in business Got people waiting my ar5e I got conned by another similar company about 5 years ago now and suprise suprise not one phone call.

Would you use car data to buy a car?

No!

Why use them to sell then?

Paul :)

mrklaw 19 August 2003 07:24 PM

OOPS!

I just got stung by cardata. The guy sounded like a scripted muppet, but then all direct sales are these days. Their website and magazine is surprisingly professional if they are con merchants. They even have lots of 'partners and links' and say that they power the daily mirrors used car section.

They are sending confirmation / receipt in the post - is there any way to cancel? I'm hoping distance selling rules would apply?

Has noone sold anything through them?

misty 19 August 2003 07:29 PM

Ask them for the clients details, and tell them if he buys the car you'll give them the money. Or you can just tell them to p**s the f**k off!

Scooby-Doo 19 August 2003 08:10 PM

I'm with Misty, when I got the call I offered to pay them £150 on the sale of my car. They said no !!!! Once they say no go on the offensive as to why they would refuse such a great offer when they already have a list of buyers. The salesman was most flustered and I didn't get a call again :)

WRX Wannabe 19 August 2003 08:14 PM

They are $hite as i found out when i payed to advertise my Saxo a few years ago :(

Stay away from them ;)

Leslie 19 August 2003 09:36 PM

Don't do it!!

Les

he never phone me back

mikee

Paulo P 20 August 2003 09:42 AM

lol @ Mikee :D

like so many have said here I have never heard of anyone who has sold their car through them (or anyone like them) The people who did get conned on this thread should do the right thing and call watchdog about them. The company I got conned by was one similar (Translink international)

Paul

HELLOM8 20 August 2003 09:54 AM

I agree with Paul. People need to know how these people operate.

magnet 20 August 2003 09:56 AM

i saw a watchdog special on them! put me right off! :)

avoid..

Anaconda 20 August 2003 10:39 AM

When I was selling my last car I got more calls from cardata and other similar companies than from genuine interested buyers! I was polite to start with, then just ended up telling them to f**k off. Always put no canvassers on your adverts

Paulo P 20 August 2003 10:42 AM

Always put no canvassers on your adverts
That makes no difference to them :( tell them you are not interested and you will get another call a day or so later :( they are so pushy to sell you nothing for £80 and won't take no for an answer.

Wa*kers

You could try telling them that you have a database of people selling their cars who are dying to use CarDatas service and that for a nominal fee of £10 per name you will provide the details.

Might shut them up, epsecially if you tell them the add was just to get attention from canvassers.

Mr Gee 20 August 2003 11:14 AM

These companies are scum. Steer well clear of these to$$ers ...

Mungo 20 August 2003 11:43 AM

Complete to$$ers - don't have anything to do with them.
They offered me a "deal" when I was selling a car - £25 up front and then £55 on the sale. They took the whole £80 up front and I had to get it recovered from my card company. And I never got a single call for a sale.

Beemer_Deano 20 August 2003 12:00 PM

Same sorry tale here - my girlfriend got conned into registering her Mini with them, "8 buyers in our area", plus the offer of a free holiday if no sale. £75 and six months later and not a single buyer from them. At first she kept ringing them to ask where all these buyers were - the contact stopped taking her calls, then had the receptionist say he'd left the company. The "free" holiday turned out to be the usual free accomodation as long as you bought the extortionate meals loblocks. They've never even rung to see if the car was sold (it did, through AutoTrader).

Steer well clear of those feckers.

Deano

wideboyuk 20 August 2003 01:25 PM

Would Watchdog do anything about these bunch of winkers?

MattN 20 August 2003 01:53 PM

I wasted my money on them a few years ago, you can phone up for a status check so I did, and they had given out my details to 16 people. Wow I thought 16 people called and said,

I want this car around this age/spec and price in this area..
yes sir we have one that matches your criteria,
great can I have the details,
of course sir...
Ok now all I have to do is call the owner...

16 people not one of them called, liars, con merchants

I wind them up now with the following..

Yes it's for sale, well mate if you have a list of buyers I'll let you have it for £500 less, which you can keep as a tidy profit...

Not sure, don't want the owner to find out I'm selling it...
