Just flicking through the Auto Trader yesterday, and noticed two Clio Cups for sale: 1) 2003 52 plate 15K miles Mint condition = £9,500 ono 2) 2002 02 plate 7K miles as above = £10,500 Being as these are £13,000 new, I thought these had depreciated quite badly!! Sporty Clio's traditionally seem to hol their value quite well e.g. all Williams models and late well acred for 16v models. Could these become the new performance bargain?? |
Depends on how much you can haggle,i got the wife one for 11500 from dealer sept 52 reg. So if it was worth 10500 now i would be buzzing seen as its nearly 12 months old.
|
The predicted values for the cup look pretty poor, i would expect to pick one up for less than 6 grand in 3 years time. The Williams has a greater 'cult' following it would seem, so the demand for unmolested/ slightly modified cars is great enough to warrant good residuals, although they have a habit of falling apart in your hands. Great little hatches though.
Regards, Andy |
I've seen a few at low prices too, cant see why, as they seem to be popular to everyone.
Was half considering one myself. ;) |
You might find that 2nd hand values begin to firm up a bit more over the next few months - especially as production of the Cup ends in October
|
What are they going to replace it with then?
|
The new shape Clio is due very soon.
The 172 and 172 cups can be found brand new from £9k and a V6 from £15k brand new. |
9K new:eek:, WHERE!!!!??? Ill have one.

£9k for cup or 172 new? - I don't think so. But you can certainly get cups for £11k-£11.5k and 172s for £12.5k-£13k. I paid £10,500 for my 3 month old 3000 mile ex demo cup from a renault main dealer 4 months ago, and so I'm quite happy to see that I've lost less than a grand so far.
The last count published on cliosport.net about a month ago gave a figure of 1300 cups sold in the UK since Sept last year; reckon there might end up being 2500 by the end of the production run in October: That will make it pretty rare by mainstream standards, and bodes well for future values. |
No way! Thats a £12,000 saving on clio!
Would be good tho! :) |
New shape Clio - 2005..
Says Jeremy Townsend of Renault UK (Product Manager) |
No really................where can you get a cup for £9k brand spanker? I would be very interested in that!! |
Well, there's now way you can get one for £9k new as I've just bought (ordered) one for £10.6k (18% off) and that's the cheapest I could find a brand new, not pre-registered, full UK spec car for...
I could get a 172 Sport for £12.3k (also 18% off) too, again from a UK dealer, not an import or a pre-reg. However, this aint an offer open to all, as I got it off my mate who's the sales manager of my local dealer and his Dad owns the place. Show me proof where you CAN get them for such a low price and I'll believe it! |
That the dealer next to the Petrol station then Rick ;)
Dales has a Cup you know? Si PS just emailed your Nildram account, you still on that? |
Tell me about it they are cheap as anything, great car to , i sold mine just in time and didn't loose to much money :).Must say i like my inpreza though, but the cup was very good for every day use.
|
That the dealer next to the Petrol station then Rick The Rallye goes on Saturday(private sale), then I have a few days to wait before the Cup arrives, but I am borrowing Adrian's 172 while he's on his honeymoon, as he gets wed this Friday! ;) Dales has a Cup you know? What does he think of it?! PS just emailed your Nildram account, you still on that? |
Since his Scoob was nicked from Fence. :(
We took it on the last Dales Run over Yorkshire way, and easily kept up with the Scoob's in the group, even in the "Twisties". Supposed to be hard work in the wet though. |

Yeah, I drove one last summer when they were just out and I nearly bought one then, but seeing as I was in the middle of buying a new house, I left it and went for the 306 Rallye as it was 1/2 the price. But, now I am in a position to go for one and at that price, it's a bargain! ;) Supposed to be hard work in the wet though. I've heard the standard Conti's aint the best wet weather tyre though, so that might be some of the problem. But, if you think a Cup is bad, you wanna try my R5 GT Turbo in the wet... |
Need to crack on with my 205 GTi 1.9 Mi16 on twin throttle bodies with NOS project then :D:D
Need something potent to keep up with all you guys round here - the GTi-6 should put us on though if we get one. |
Could have had my old 306 Rallye mate...
That is still a quick car and the Cup aint gonna be much quicker! |
Fancied your car, but we aint buying til September, and its for the missus, not sure if she would be keen on the "lose the comfy bits" Rallye.
|
PS Vtech, sorry for the hijack :)
|

|
Ahhh, it all becomes abundently clear!! So whose up for a cup group buy??? surely with enough interest we could get them for £2-3k each hehehehe LOL :) |
