I recently fitted a ScoobySport Downpipe to my MY00 to complement the Magnex Straight through centre section and TSL Grp 'N' rear box.

First impressions were, that the extra noise from the front of the car was a bit OTT....too much Turbo whistle (to the point it almost sounded as if something was wrong) and a very Tinnie noise at 1,500rpm.

This noise seemed to be eminating from the lower bend and horizontal section of the downpipe.

After reading many articles on here, I decided to obtain some HeatWrap from Cooltek (www.cooltek.co.uk) and remove the downpipe and wrap it.

After re-fitting the noise levels were much reduced and the Turbo whistle was down to a more sensible level.

However, the tinnie noise, although slightly quieter, was still there.

Another 10M of wrap should short it (I thought). So I proceded to purchase some from 'ThinkAuto' (http://www.thinkauto.com/acatalog/Pr...white_180.html)

This was thicker than the CoolTek (3mm instead of 1.5mm) and the P&P is cheaper.

Anyway, for other reasons I decided to fit the standard CAT centre section. But to my amazment, in doing so, the horrible tinnie noise vanished (however, the overall volume was dramatically reduced, and it sounded almost standard).

I wanted more Boxer Beat Volume, and with and hour or so to kill one evening, I decided to use the 10M of Exhaust wrap on the Magnex Centre section.

Upon refitting to the car I have found that the Scooby Soundtrack was Back and the horrible tinnie ring of the DP had vanished.

So the moral being.....
If the downpipe is tinnie/ringing then Lag the 'Centre Section' OR 'Both'(20M will do it).

All I can think is that it is some strange Acoustic Phenominominnom.....

P.S Sorry to go on a bit, but I was well chuffed with the result.

I fitted my Magnex Twin Dump DP, to complement my Magnex Res Centre, & Magnex BB

I cant hear the turbo whistle, no increased noise at all from the front of the car, unless i cane it, then it gets LOUD but only over 4k rpm :)

anyone compared the non res to res centre. i have non res centre and bb. the booming inside the cabin from the centre is a bit much. sonic have you been in a car with non res. will probably try wrapping on the centre before changing it. can't decide between the two downpipe mentioned above as roughly the same price.

Wrapping the centre should sort it....

I have recently fitted Decat DP and non-res centre. I have found it has a slightly tinny sound and you can hear the turbo whistle at between 1500 and 2000 rpm but I think that sounds quite cool.

It is a bit boomy at around 70mph and it seems to have made the back-box louder!

I havent tried mine with a non res centre, so I cant comment on how it would sound

it does get slightly boomy on occasion, but I guess only when hitting the frequencies that make my eardrums vibrate

not very often, and is fairly quiet cruising on the motorway

I have only wrapped the downpipe and it pops like crazy..
