Had a chat with Andy today at the MG Saloon day event. Seems 400+ is now a bit passe .... won't say the figure now quoted ... you won't believe it!!! AND he drove it to the event. ;)

If you want to see this unusual car perform, attend the Pod on Max Mental Weekend (or whatever it's called) on 9-10 August and see it, and a number of others in action.....:)

How many of the original 500 Turboes are left now I wonder - probably much rarer than RS500's I should guess.

How many of the 505 survive? .... probably rather more than people realise despite being a car which ceased production over fourteen years ago. Many of those survivors are now well maintained by enthusiasts. I have a tatty runner which when time allows, will be less tatty ....:)

At an MG M annual gathering a few years back, about 40 of these cars attended, most of which were in excellent condition or better. There are probably at least twice as many more in good daily driver or poor cosmetic but still running condition. Other laid up non-runners sometimes turn up too. Tucked away at the back of a garage or on the side of someone's drive - that's where I found mine! Knocked on the door and a deal was done. Even very recently, two more have appeared on ebay and in classifieds which are now in enthusiasts hands. This has happened quite frequently with 'lost' cars turning up every so often. Thus maybe one third or up to a half of the 505 production run still survive in some form or other.

So, keep 'em peeled.... you never know your luck ..;)

If anyone ever comes across one of the original 505 Maestro Turbos(there are some fine non-original clones about) please alert one of the MG Clubs. Some owners are simply not aware of their rarity although the word is getting round now.
