Sounds like a good idea to me. But what happens if you give someone the card they need - do you get to split the prize or what? Obviously you can't split a Chrysler Crossfire, but if it was sold you could split the cash. Or have I lost the plot?

Sounds like a good idea, I always fill up on optimax so will be collecting them anyway. Currently only have the BMW X5 but I dare say the amount I use my car this collection will soon grow.

Gary, you'll soooooooooo wish you hadn't volunteered for this.

It will become obvious which car/tyre cards are the winning ones within a week or two, and then you'll just be adding more and more of each of the "available" cardholders to the list.

The chances of anyone on here winning are miniscule - much lower than the hassle you'll endure with any sort of "database".

But your call i guess....

No it isn't. Nobody ever "went halves" with a stranger on a bbs. The only useful thing we'll achieve is letting everybody know which cards are the "valuable" ones, and then letting them get on with it. Anyone hoping to be gifted a car is even sillier than i am!!

Only going to be one or two winning cards - if you get one, you will probably have hundreds of the common ones - screw sharing with anybody keep da cash/car :D

There will be about a dozen winning cards, and half a million or whatever "ordinary" cards.

There is NO WAY Shell could prevent the ordinary cards being at the same garage as the winning cards.

The trick is to find one of the dozen or so winning cards. There will only be ONE Audi TT card, ONE Chrysler Crossfire card and so on. Didn't you do the previous Shell promotion, Top Trumps? It was very similar...

Well I think it's good of Gary to offer to do this, irrespective of whether people think it's a rip-off.

According to the terms and conditions there will be TEN winning cards. So it's 10 chances out of x million. But there is no harm in trying ;)

Things will get 'interesting' if there is someone with the winning card and several people with the other half-card. So I guess it's not necessarily going to be a 50:50 split, but some kind of bidding. Oh dear!

Top effort Gary, although you'll probably be brassed off after a week . The way i envisage it working is that the person who finds one of the ten winning cards will already have the tyre/car card to match up as the non-winning cards will be very common, and so i don't think they'll nedd any help to claim their prize i.e whoever finds the TT car card will almost certainly have the TT tyre card. Nice idea though, and good luck

As i stated before am gathering my collection, I currently have the X5, M3 tyres and Merc AMG. I think its a good idea, especially to see if shell are playing fair, will update you when I get more.

How long has this promo been going on!!

I always fill up with Optimax, & have NEVER been offered a card. Oh, & last night, the till person didn't even know how to process my £10 Shell voucher so asked if I minded using it next time! Fecking shocking- how difficult can it be?

Before reading this thread I had hoped that everyone would feel happy about "Going halves" if they won.

Unfortunately, it looks like some of us arent as open and honest as others.

Disappointing but that's life I suppose.

If somebody on here is lucky enough to pick up the Audi TT card for example, why *on Earth* should they pick someone at random on SN to share it with? And if they don't, in what sense are they being dishonest or secretive? :confused: Have i misunderstood what you're trying to say?

The biggest downfall to this promotion that i can see is that you don't end up with anything useful at the end of it, unlike Top Trumps. Who wants a pile of tyre pictures? Are Michelin really expecting this to influence people's tyre choices??

Just to add fuel to the fire (pardon the pun), i think its become apparent what are the popular cards and what cards are like "rocking horse ****".

Not that i use optimax but surely someone who gets the "rocking horse ****" would keep it and then eventually get the more common card at a later, thus... keeping the car for themselves.
