I am in the middle of modifying my house & the BT line is in the way of my new back door opening. My question is, If I have one of these:

Do I still need this?

As they appear to be the same picture the answer must be yes!! You might want to check your post and also use the IMG tag.

if the cable is long enough just joint it inside the connection box. It saves you having that birdsnest you got at the moment. If not then by u surface mounted box and a blank plate and joint it in there it looks a hell of a lot neater. Just remember to write down what goes where before you go chopping the cables.

Do I need to keep the connections (resistors?) that look like they are wrapped in resin? Or can I just cut the wires & terminate at a new connection box

The short answer is no.

You can simply remove the cables from the junction box and wire them straight into the master socket. As someone else said just be sure to carefully annotate what is connected to where at the moment and you should be fine.

Cheers chaps, will do it in the morning now, I don't think the wench would be over impressed if I started fixing new sockets to the wall at this time of night:)

I am not an expert, but the mains cable looks a little too close to the telephone bits

Well that's where the BT guy put the box, & the mains (one leg of garage ring) was there first. We don't have any interference & my modem runs at 49000bps.
