My Prodrive/Alcon 330mm disc's have warped slightly, dealer has told me that Subaru won't cover them under warranty :(
There is still plenty of life in them, can they be skimmed? Has anyone tried or had this done?

Any idea's welcome...

Steve.

Skimming is sometimes successfull, its worth a try!
If to much has to be machined, their knackered anyway though.
You need to find out the minimum permitted thickness of the disc.

Worth a try but you may find the warping gets a worse with heat/braking in which case you are on a loser with skimming them

Thanks guy's, now I need to find someone who would do it!

Nothing to lose at this stage.

Anyone else had this done?

Steve.

Steve, whereabouts are you based? I know of a company that can do this.

Dan

Appreciate details mate.

ABP in crewe can do this. £60 for both fronts. Made my EBC discs like new again...... wouldn't touch EBC discs again tho :( . Definately worth a try.

Tony.

Steve, better going to ABP in Crewe. Bit closer than where I would send you.

I believe ABP do the machining on the vehicle. ie the disks are still bolted to the hubs...they say doing this removes any irregularities due to the hub as well as the disk.

How they do it (accurately) on vehicle, spinning the disk up on one side side only I don`t know!!!!!!

I had slight warping on mine. I took a DIY approach

Jacked the car up, placed it on axle stands, placed some glass paper between the pads and the disks. 3 mins at 20-30 mph soon sorted them :D

PS No liability accepted if you decide to try this!

Looks like a call to ABP then guy's!!

Will let you know how I get on, thanks all.

quite often what you think is warped disks is actually uneven brake pad deposits on the disk surface. Clean the disks with a grit paper, deglaze the pads in the same way and try them.

The TunnelMeister 03 July 2003 08:56 AM

Hiya John,

might be something in that, I'll give it a whirl before putting them under the knife.

I do have a new set I can put on but these have loads left and, at the price they charge for these, it would be a waste.

cheers

Steve.
