I'm going to look at one this evening with my girlfriend as she wants one. Anyone got any points specific to look out for? What are they like???

Thanks

Phil

They're ALL missing that bit of coloured trim from the front spoiler. :D

Guess they'd be somewhat fun to drive as they're light but I'll say no more as I've not a clue having never driven one.

Tin can on wheels and just as basic on the inside.
Why bother mate. Steer clear.

Not very Torquey :)

Would you really like to be in one in a collision? They have a poor NCAP rating on account of them being made of biscotti.

Try and inlfuence her to choose a Ka instead?

Why not try a Seicento they look and are kitted out miles better than the Cinquecento, you can pick up a 2 year old one for about £3500 and the build quality is loads better than older Fiats. There’s one in Motorhouse 2000 for £3799 2001 17k miles, alloys, sunroof, central locking, lecy windows, power steering and CD player.

Got to agree with Stephen the NCAP rating is shocking for both they got 1 out of 5. To put it into perspective I have a new shape Punto Sporting and that got 4 out of 5 a new shape scoob gets 4 out of 5 and the Renault Megan and Laguna get 5 out of 5 so the Cinc is pretty poor.

they are absolutely tiny inside......
great fun tho.
and yes they ARE all missing the black bit on the front. lol

djy 30 June 2003 07:19 PM

?? what black bit on the front?

Oh, buy 97 or later... much more reliable than earlier models.

I had one. Good fun... almost as quick as an impreza...

JOKE before you flame me :D :D

really nippy around town and tight twisty lanes, no understeer within the limits in the dry, lift-off oversteery in the wet :)

doesnt use petrol... i think it lives on air. put some petrol in it once ;)

and no i wouldnt like to be in a crash either.

www.clubcento.co.uk for more info i think.

Had one for 6 years now...nearly 70k miles and in my mind not likely to last much longer.

Awful gearbox just gets worse, eats clutch and handbrake cables, terrible electrics - Fiat tried to charge me £800 for a replacement ECU plus lock changing. Told them to kiss my a**e - reprogrammed independently for 300.

Fine when new, they are just not built to last (well my 96 doesn't semm to be!)

Agree good fun while not being rapid in any way. Here's a thought though - stick a Punto GT engine in it - I thought about it a while back, but I reckon it will be a little expensive!

Hope this helps, apologies for being so negative!

Argggggghhhh don't show these things a stone it might break it, they are scary in crashes seen a few pics!
Awful build - stay well clear! Sorry but true

Cinquecento sporting... bahahahaha sporting bahahahaha. Bout as sporting as a mushroom. A dead one at that. Dont buy it, ive only encountered a handful of the things in my time, but every single one was a complete joke - engines needing rebuilding under 40k, the worst paint ever, basically made of cheese.

PhilsGT4 01 July 2003 11:22 AM

Right, thats the Cinq out then, what would be a good first car then, she's looking to spend £2k max and cheap insurance as its her first car.....

Thanks

Phil
