Was in Halfords on the verge of buying some octane booster (STD I think) but stopped myself as I'm not sure what the potential benefits or problems are with an 02 WRX. I fancy giving it a try but thought I'd ask the learned scoobynetters first!

You'll get many answers:
Millers NF Pro Boost and others, some will go by personal experience, some will avoid due to horror stories. Personally use pro boost......... |
I want to try some before buying a bulk quantity so when in Halfords there's nothing to choose from. Where else can you get small quantities to try out?

I have been using a mix of Methanol and toulene with no ill effects. All the people in my area club called me crazy and told me I was off my rocker. On fathers day a local subaru dealer rented a drag track for the day. By the end of the day all the people that said I was crazy were converted to methanol as a anti det/octane booster. They were all pushing the limits of timming and boost with thier Utecs and started running into Knock. Then they added 1 gal of methanol to a half tank of pump gas and they were able to push boost and/or timming further. Now I have created a bunch of methanol addicts.
Personaly I have run 20-30 gallons of methanol and ~10 gallons of toulene thruogh my fuel system I have 38,000miles on my WRX and there have been no problems. Arround here 1 gallon of methanol goes for ~$2.50/gal US. The octane boosters on the shelf of auto parts stores go for arround the same price. In my opinion the methanol provides much more octane enhancement than any of the stuff you can buy at the auto stores. Mark |
Meths can do bad things to fuel lines, I think? not sure though :)
Toluene's almost impossible to get hold of here, but have heard a lot of good things about it. Seeming I'm here, IMHO NF is the stuff :D |
Sounds like I need a friend at an oil refinery! But don't we all?
