... continuing story of the X-Type Saga - I expect by Christmas it'll be right....

the tires are 17" low profile and a huge wigitt thing got deeply embedded in the tread which apparently has pushed straight through the rubber and broken the metal threads in the tire... which I've been told by two places they shouldn't repair because the tire will bend!?.... any opinion or should I bite the bullet and get a new tire or try and find someone to repair it? New tire is £147. -ouch!

for safety sake, get a new one IMHO, thats what i'd do.

I don't have an issue with spending the money... but I do have an issue if the tire is repairable and I'm being conned.... that's why I asked.... the tire is brand new anyway and it bugs me that it's already knackered... but I suppose that's life....

All I want to know is if anyone had an opinion on whether the tire really is wrecked or is it repairable... if it isn't it isn't ... but I hate being ripped off....

Most tyre manufacturer now recommend ZR rated tyres are not repaired.

If the damage is a just a hole (ie not a gash) and its in the centre 3/4 of the tyre then it probably can be repaired but most tyre places won't just in case something goes wrong.

I'm skint most of the time but i'd find the cash for the new tyre.

Get the yellow pages out and try and find a tyre vulcaniser in your area. Contact them, tell them what's happened and see what they say. Vulcanisers do repairs to all sorts of tyres that normal places can't - if they have a look at the tyre they should be able to give you an honest answer.

The good thing is they're not going to send you out on a repaired tyre if it's dodgy as it's not worth them making a few quid with that hanging over their heads.

Worth a try - just my 2 cents worth.

Sounds like you've had some troubles with the X-type - still cats can be fussy creatures can't they ;-) Great when they're purring though!!

What size is the tyre?

I'm surprised that it's £150 for that type of car.

Tyres(Bridgestones) on my Honda 'should' be £150 (Over £200 from Honda!!) but I get them for £70/90 by shopping around.
