Righty,

This is a dj related post- not audiophile/home use- i know theres a few dj type people on here.
Im sick of sennheisers breaking- my last pair lasted a month- and i took them back this morning and got a refund.Everybody else i know with a pair has problems too. I Wont have another pair of them now.

narrowed it down to a few possible choices-(wont get them from htfr-just using as example link)
Pioneer HDJ1000

Anyone got any good/bad experiences of the above- heard mixed views of the Sony MDRV700s-others im not sure about.?

Any other suggestions- as stated before, not for home use -im a dj- and as such they need to be pretty loud, closed back and above all reliable (4/5 night a week)

Any suggestions welcome except for sennheisers!

Stick with the sony's. I am a Hifi headphone nutter and frequent 3 forums related to them !!!

Stens tend to have bad cables and plugs. ok sound great (HD600's) but the sonys walk over everything for pro DJ use. the 700's are about as good as your going to get.

But also check you mixer phone amp......even the best are krap. A quick upgrade will blow you away.

Couldnt find a good head!!! but will one day.... Charity shops seem to have them in their displays. foam that I have is ok..... spending hours getting the angle on my head correct. Also have been damping the enclosure with good results. the enclosure walls are covered bluetack.


Having an dedicated amp built to run them (Its sat in kit form by my feet) so when its all finished....it should be great.

Thing is ive heard bad things about the sony 700s with regards to breaking around the pivots-a fellow dj at one of the clubs i do has his pair all taped up and advised me not to get them- yet others praise them till the cows come home.

agh stupid things.
Gonna have to do more (rapid) investigation.
Incidentally, the best pair i have -ultra reliable, crystal clear sound andmy fave pair, is a pair of 25 yr old sony phones.
Absolutely piss on everything else ive used-except they are rather big (nicknamed the 'elephant ears' :D)

my sten's have unbelievable sound quality but as u said about the plugs and wires sometimes the sound only goes to one earphone bit and u have to twiddle with the plug to get it working right, pain in the air really

Luke, in my past experience of the Floats, even Darth Vader would stop & stare. Then point & snigger at the funny helmet. My G/F found them hilarious, but she admitted they sound superb.

Check these beasts......something like 25 yrs old (older than me!) but still the best headphones ive ever used.....i use them all the time....not called elephant ears for nothing....:D Sonys too=-with a fabric cord-not plastic. Howabout that for retro.;)

By the way- went and tried a pair of Sony mdrv700dj 'phones today and they are great... dont think i will have problems with them snapping like most pairs, as i wont be folding them in the way that a lot of people do.
Fellow dj i know works at a sony centre and has sold me a brand new pair for £60-bargain!
I will still be taking both pairs with me to work tho....

Although the Senns are good quality (and the cable idea was an attempt to assist in replacement costs etc. Shame it didn't work!!! :D)

My experience with "live" applications is finding a balance between sound quality, durablity and price. Headphones are a "tool of the trade" - a consumable. IMHO, it's a case of finding a set you're happy with and it won't break the bank each new purchase.

Anyway, if anyone cares, sony 700s started to crack... so bought some pioneer 1000s... which then broke- as did the FOUR subsequent warrantry pairs over the course of 2 months (exactly the same problem on each, the left cup cutting out intermittently).

Had some sony 7506 shipped over from the states and they are perfect and have been for the best part of a year now.
Will never use anything else now- they are that good. And the number of studios that have these is surprisingly high for a model thats not officially sold in the uk.
