Has anyone on here got one? And if so what do you think of it? (Am more intrested in the 5 door.)
Call me paranoid, but finding out that the clasic shape scooby only score 2 stars in the Ncap tests had made me think I need to change the car. Had a near miss a couple of weeks ago (My fault and total bad judgement) and this has prayed on my mind for a while, but I was thinking "if it all had gone the shape of the pear, I would have come off OK as the scoobs is a safe car" But now I am starting to doubt that. Having seen that the post 2001 models score alot higher and that the 2003 came out as small car of choice in the america insurance instute crash tests, my mind has moved to changing for the new model. I know the car is also more refined and is better speced, but the 0-60 times seam a little less. Has it lost any of it's get up and go? I drive an automatic, and it is slow from a standing start, but once doing 30ish it is quick right through to 80-90, has it still got this? Anyone tried the old auto box as well as the new one, are they the same or have they improved it? |
I would say get yourself MY03 with manual trasmission and you'll have qucker and better (safer) car.

I have got used to not having to think about gears and a clucth, surley it is safer to have both hands on the steering wheel at the all times? And the auto does have a POWER mode should you require to go fast.

My Wife's just bought an 03 GX Sportswagon and she's delighted with it. A dealer tried to twist our arms a bit to have an 02 Auto (at a huge discount), but we both wanted a manual box. More fun, safer, faster, more economical, better residuals etc etc.

What sort of discount were they offering on a 02 model, as I am not too fussed to have the bug eyed, especially if the price is right.
|
I think it was around £13.5K

Nexuas - swapping a sport for a sport!
Have you learned nothing... ;) PS MY03 fandabbytastic, although I do have a turbo... oh and the new one's aren't available in reddish blue unless you import from Australia (no I didn't... ;) ) |
"new one's aren't available in reddish blue"
There are if you buy a GX Sportswagon. Cheers Mike 02 WRX PPP 03 GX Sportswagon |
Well I'll be.... :D
Different Reddish blue to the old one - be nice to see in the flesh |
Sorry but the sport is fast enough for me at the moment.
Had a bit of a moment having a play with a Civic Type R, got a bit sideways on a roundabout, but managed to keep going in the right direction. Think a faster car would be a bit more lethal. Also the insurance would be a killer. |
BTW Silver, Black or DBM I think.
|
"Different Reddish blue to the old one"
Much darker - but very striking. It gets lots of admiring looks from passers by. Not my first choice, but the Wife drives it, and overall the car's a peach. We tried the Civic Type R and weren't that impressed. Too much revving for me and it's still got that strange "sticky" steering - one second heavy and tight, next light and loose, but all in the same corner. Very off putting. Cheers |
I was not too keen on the reddish blue to start with but the other half seamed to think it was the best colour that Subaru do. And most people who see the car and have no idea what it is all say "Well it is a nice colour".
|
Id' have preferred it a bit lighter.
|
Don't seam to be able to get a really deep shine to the paint even directly after polishing.
|
You can with ours!
|
:p
|
We've never polished either. It's only 2.5 weeks old - 1400 miles.
|
Thats going to be a high milage car when it gets older?
|
my reddish blue used to polish up a treat :D
Turtle Wax for metallics (and a very sore arm) http://www.andyhall.dsl.pipex.com/MyCarSmall.jpg |
How does the 03 model corner?
|
|
Oh and I use auto glym, and a very very sore arm. A good couple of hours from start to finish.
Vacum inside Wash dry Bumper restorer - All black trim Glass cleaner inside and out Super resin polish metal polish on exhaust pipe end. Other half hates me cleaning the car as I am outside sooo long, and so not paying her any attention. |
soft water in your area?
I have to repeat the wash cycle to get me something clean enough to wax... |
"How does the 03 model corner?"
Better than the Classic/01/02 4dr Sports I've had as loaners in the past. It's got tremendous body control over tight, rough roads. It's no WRX, but it's also not the hardship I thought it might be. My Wife's made an excellent choice. The Dog loves it too; no more forcing him into the boot of my WRX 4dr... ;) Cheers Mike PS We just piled the miles on to get it run in. Mind, the two of us do 30K a year in 2 cars; quite high for private miles. |
Any pics please Toonman?
Jon MY00 DBM Sport ;) |
Sure jon, as long as you don't mind swapping Forums. :)

All that needs now is the waist high spoiler on the boot, and the eyebrow over the back window. And a couple of smiley faces to show us you are a scoobynetter.
|
Er, it's Toongirl's 03 GX Sportswagon. I've got an 02 WRX PPP. :)
Cheers! |
