Top Gear really is the best thing on the telly at the moment don't you think, especially since they got rid of that fat bloke who just used to come on and spout off about great deals on second hand volvos or some bollox?
anyway, while this may have already come up as a thread before, i am new and won't have seen it, and i couldn't be bothered to do a search SO...what do you all think of the travesty that is the top ten cars?
Mclaren f1- yup
Ford mustang- okay (in gt500 spec only though)
E-type- yeah whatever
Audi quattro- fine
All the others- eh?
I mean come on! When they announced that competition i nearly wet myself with excitement, and what do we get, the bloody black cab, land rover and some fiat and citroen rubbish from the 1800s
I'm missing the point of it all i'm sure but what does everyone else think?

The list was flawed.

There was no F40:D

Greg:)

What makes a car great?

BHP?
Torque?
Technology?
Fantastic asthetics?
Race techology in road cars?
Or the ability to change a nation???

IMHO Land Rover and Fiat 500 have changed nations!!

Yes they may not be the fastest cars on the road, but then it wasn't Top Ten Fastest Cars! or even Top Ten Most Desirable Cars!

SJ_Skyline 23 June 2003 11:30 AM

As Andy says - cars that changed / shaped nations.

The Model T Ford I think may be the earlyist example.

scoobysug 23 June 2003 11:46 AM

yes, it is flawed, greatest cars are those that changed nations? the mclaren f1?!! don't think so some how, which is why it is a crap list, the word "greatest" is simply too vague!
and if i'm being honest here, does anyone on here really give a monkeys about the fact that the fiat 500 mobilised a nation, who can honestly say they would rather see that than an impreza, an evo, a 911, all great cars for different reasons!?

Triple X 23 June 2003 11:49 AM

Maybe they shouldnt of had a list but rather people choose their own favourite?
