My mobo has serial ATA (I'm using ide at moment)

I want to add a big fast drive, is it worth looking at Serial ATA

Are they THAT much quicker ?- also (I should read the manual) can you mix ide and serial ATA on one mobo (asus a7n8x delux)

cheers..

Only S-ATA HD's I'd consider at the moment are the WD Raptor.

10k RPM, 36GB per drive.

StorageReview has all the figures and benchmarks.

I have both a Raptor and an IDE drive, I'm also using an A7N8X. If you do decide to got SATA remember you will need to get the SATA drivers from SI and have them ready on a floppy before you install Winows.

I'd say the Raptor is very, very fast in every day use,but its also quite noisy.

I run 2 x 80GB Segate Barracuda SATA drives on my machine in a Raid 0 setup. They seem to be very fast, and also are virtually silent.
