A chip is the easiest mod for greatest performance.. £499 for the Superchip Bluefin which ups the BHP to 237 and the torque to 363Nm. Best of all, the mapping is pretty level and has no stupid peaks to get XXX BHP at 5756.5RPM or something!

The difference is amazing as most of the restriction in 2nd gear is removed (and some in 1st) which makes a huge improvement to the 0-60 and 0-100 times. I haven't timed my car to 60 but Evo managed the standard in 5.9 and the Bluefin in 5.2 or 5.4 seconds.

That's almost approaching STI territory before any mechanical mods! The cat is not meant to be very restrictive, so I doubt I'd bypass it because that will also invalidate the warranty (and I read about the problem an Impreza owner had so that doesn't appeal to me).

I'd add a couple of extra doors, put a 4 wheel drive system in and a nice bonnet scoop. That should do the job just nicely:)
