I'm not very hard on the car, mainly due to my dubious penalty point predicament :( However in light of the thread highlighting a potential problem I'll keep my eye on them for similar damage.

I still rate the F1 GSD3 (in my personal experience) as an improvement over the OE tyres, and a good all rounder.

Currently running Mitchlin Pilot Sports on MY02. Only had them a couple of months and they are crap!
Need to change them to a tyre that has more grip.
Can anyone recommend a tyre through their experience.
From doing a search I see that Goodyear F1 and Toyo seem to be highly spoken off!
I am hoping to order a new set of four today.

F1s are the ones. They have been consistently excellent on all the cars I have had including the Scoob.
I shopped about and got the price down to About £105 mark locally.

You can get cheaper deals off the net. There is a place in Bristol that does mail order. I think it is Plantie who some times posts the details up. I have the phone no if you want it. Also details of the cheapest tyre places. Payless Tyres - Fields Tyres - Motorway (I think that is their name)

Recently fitted F1s to MY02. Stickier, better balanced, more progressive handling, and a lot less road noise than the original Bridgestones too. Certainly can't complain.

What about ride comfort? I find the ride on my MY99 very harsh, even on the motorway (can feel every imperfection) and think the OE Bridgestones are partly to blame.
On another stiffly sprung car (lowered 205 GTi) I found a huge difference between Bridgestone S03 and Yoko A320 - the Yokos gave a magic carpet ride for a little less grip and precision.

I think ride comfort is a bit better than with the OEM tyres, but not as much of an improvement as e.g. the road noise (I was very surprised by how much quieter they were)

i had yoko a539's on a my97 on 16's, great in the wet, not so good in the dry, then p zero 17's on a p1, great in the dry terrible in the wet, then f1's on 18s on the p1 great all round, now got bridgestones on a sti7, not bad all round

Goodyears are crap, and I have said it many times. So are Michelins and Falkens, Hankook etc.

The post regarding the dodgy Goodyears was for the F1 GSD2's and the photos look like they've been hammered whilst under-inflated.

I have F1 GSD3's on my MY02 and have had no problems as yet. They are much quieter than the Bridgestones and do not tramline. Grip in wet and dry is good (well, good enough for me !) but I haven't owned them long enough to comment on wear yet.

You're right, the part you are reffering to isnt the most helpful part. It is my "shock and awe" techniques ;) to make people realise that there is a problem with these tyres.

I have often recommended tyres on here in the past: Pirelli PZero assimmetrico for motorway use and Yokohama AO32R for fast road use.

That's incorrect: James clearly states "GSD3". The pictures, however, are of GSD2s, agreed.

You dont sound like you are hard on the car. I hope you will not experience any problems. But you may want to check the tyres just in case; better safe than sorry!

I'm with you on the Yokohamas being good but they are nowhere near as predicatble as the Proxes and that weird hatched tread pattern gives little chance for as good water displacement as either the Proxes or F1's (GSD3'S) and I felt they were very prone to aqua-planing and took a lot longer to warm up than either the Proxes, F1's or even the dreaded SO3's :eek:

The Yoko's were great in the dry but they just didn't cut it in the wet :)
