I've just looked at a Turbo on a garage forecourt (not a Subaru dealer). They claim it's a UK vehicle (the log book and chassis number bear this out), but its got a red badge with a single near vertical slash on the grill instead of the 6 star Subaru one. Anyone know what it means? The dealer claims it 'was modified by Prodrive at a cost of £3000'(its a MY98), but it all looks pretty standard to me (normal bodywork, interior and tail-pipes). Any ideas?

Graham,

The badge sounds like an STI one. These are easy to get hold of, GGR sell them.

Prodrive upgrades come in various packages. Have a look at the Subaru UK web site for details to see which pack the 98 car has (although £3k does not get you much from Prodrive).

If it has got a rear wiper, it is an import. UK cars don't have a rear wiper.

Hmmm, it could be a WRX, but it sounds liek a UK car with the badge on it. Check the seats, check the suspension and wheels, it may have the driver enhancement pack on, suspension and wheels, qquick shift? etc, and not the performance pack.

Unless it's a five-door!

Or a P1

The location of the aerial is also a complete giveaway to being a jap car.

Hmmm, MY98 P1...... It's been around that long has it..... It only seems like yesterday.

The aerial thing is not true, both my STi & my previous WRX had it in the 'A' pillar, I have seen numerous UK cars with it in the same place?

Mike,

Do UK cars have electric arials on the near side rear quarter. I thought this was common to later WRX's only. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Err...... I don't know. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

Jase came around to my office last week (UK Wagon) and his was in the 'A' pillar, just like my previous WRX (MY93) and my current type R (MY99).

Perhaps it's something importers do themselves (though can't think why) or perhaps there is no defineable pattern ...... Which would be soooooo unlike Subaru. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

All the UK cars have the aerial in the A pillar, and some of the older Jap cars too, the STi's have the electric aerial in the rear wing.

Type R's Version V at least are in the A pillar, 4 door STI V's in the rear wing.

Nowt to do with Importers
