RAC calls for a crackdown:

This seems to be on the increase - IMHO. I think traffic congestion/driver frustration contribute to this no-end.
I live near Police HQ< mereway. This is within 100YDS of a large well used roundabout. Police have just installed traffic light cams on this island. Jumping the lights on this roundabout is commonplace. |
Same round here. It's one thing when someone goes through on amber, or just towards the end of amber (i.e. the back of the car goes through on red). But I regularly see people going through several seconds after the lights have gone red
|
Have to admit, i've been guilty of jumping through on the amber a few times..but the people that clearly go through a red deserve what they get.
The fines should be increased IMO. See it every morning at one particular junction, trouble is..the cars on the other set of lights go round a blind corner, so when a car jumps..the innocent party have no idea till they're round the corner..tw@ts. |
The thing is that in a Scoob (or any 4WD car I guess) you can get away from the lights so quickly that you're in danger of hitting these twats.
There are some junctions around here where the red 'n' amber appears for one set of traffic as soon as the other set goes to red (i.e. no delay). |
Poorly set up lights are to blame for the most part. The city of Utrecht is particuarly shocking for this type of thing. Motorists get frustrated if there is a long queue of traffic and the lights only let 3 cars through legally. You will often find 6 - 8 cars actually going through and nobody gets upset about it.
I jump 1 -2 red lights each day for the reasons above and am not ashamed of it. If I stopped I would probably get rear-ended for my trouble. Suresh |
I suppose that's another thing..tailgating.
Sometimes you've got no choice but to keep going through a light when the guy behind is 4ft behind you ! |
Carl ,Good point and yes, been there, nearly done that!
