Hi all,

Right i'm new to overclocking and have done my first tweak.

Standard:

XP 2700+ @ 2160Mhz 166Mhz FSB

Tweaked:

XP 2700+ @ 2171Mhz 177Mhz FSB

I know it aint much but i'm learning - managed to get it running stable and have added 50 points to 3d mark 2003 by doing this. Had to up Vcore to 1.7V from 1.65V tho for it to work. (by the way - asus probe is currently showing temps of 56 deg for CPU and 28 deg for case).

I'm running an Asus a7n8x deluxe with ddr 2700 512mb ram.

I need some advice:

1) On standard internals (fans/heatsinks etc) what could i safely increase the fsb and vcore to?

2) Will i need to start increasing memory frequency too?

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

I need to learn! :D

Cheers

Marc

Mark with those temps i'd knock it back to standard and see what temp you run at, my machine is xp2500 clock speed is 1.83ghz but mines running v stable at 2.1ghz temp never goes over 50oC currently 47oC.

Add a couple of fans if you've not got any extra's already atleast 1 at back to expel air and one at front to bring air in, also try turning fan on cpu heatsink over and monitor temp to see which way it works best.

Try forums at http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/

Have fun

Cookie,

Those temps were about the same before I did the oc. Do they seem high then?

those temps are HIGH, is that on full load?? after playing 3dgames etc...

Your mobo and chip will take a 200 fsb, say X 10 or 11 clock, but not with that ram. You'll need to get some PC 3200 DDR 400.

And yes the cpu temp is if not under full load

ok thanks - whats fsb should i be able to get with my current ram then?

166 standard, you might get it up to 185 ish if its v. good baranded stuff.

Jye 20 June 2003 10:07 AM

Yeah, you could try 180 fsb first, up your mem voltage to 2.7 max until you get your CPU temp sorted. I doubt you would have needed to raise your core voltage, the standart 1.65 should be OK for that slight OC, its gonna be your ram that will hold you back.

BEWARE - Asus probe reads way too low!!

Download AIDA32 http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php

I've overclocked my XP1700+ (Tbred B JIUCB) currently to 2.07hgz on an Asus A7v8x. :)

I'd make sure you've got at least two case fans (one in & one out).

Have a look at the overclocking forum on http://www.amdforums.com (there is also a good ASus forum)

Ok well i've played around for a bit this afternoon and managed to get:

2233Mhz @ 203 fsb (11 x Multiplyer) with ram settings at 7-3-3-2.5t

Can't seem to get it any higher without problems so i suppose the ram is stopping that??? Doesn't seem like i've managed to get much out of it to be honest. Gone from standard 4268 3D marks to 4356 (v2003).

Any more pointers or help to get that score up (yes i will be buying better ram at some point!)

Cheers
