Great views. Dartmoor looks good too on a day like that.
Les :) |
Highest point was 550ft, Hoping to go to the lakes soon. Im more a mountain biker, but old man had knee cartlidge op in december so just breaking him in slowly:) 3 hours to hike 8 miles werent bad.
I personally cant hike when its warm, i love the snow and rain. Used to go to scouts :) did loads outdoor pursuits loved that. Did a 12mile night hike which was pretty tough going with a 50lbs bag. Si |
Looks a good trudge, where is that?
|
Si, sod walking, with that scenery you should have taken the bike. ;) :D
|
Up in the dales, Gunnerside i think.
marko - some paths where less then 2-3 ft wide  could be scary. Soon as the clouds came in it was pretty awesome weather up there Si |
Up above Hawes & Aysgarth, must go take a look. Haven't been up that far yet, but if you don't know it, there's a great piece of road to try near there. In the village of West Witton turn south (easily missed turning) down Grassgill Lane & up the Witton Heights (1st gear hairpins) towards Melmerby. A word of caution, when you see the chevrons (left) in the distance, slow down, they're on 25ft stilts. The road turns sharply left into a steep drop, very dangerous, but exhilerating.
|
Yeah went across the ranges.
We rent the station out at Redmire for the weekend and go walking. Today we underestimated a jump and got some "air time" Nice walks up there usually do resvoirs etc. Scarhouse is quite good. So is High Force and the Strid Si |
You obviously know your way around up there. Have you ever done Ingleton Falls? Not the most challenging walk but absolutely beautiful. Had a couple of days in Grassington for G/F's birthday, did that and Malham Spectacular. You're so right, it's good to get out of the city.
|
Malham Spout yes :)
Done a few round grassington before half the troubles remembering the names. Id love to do a good 20-30mile and just take the tent in the middle nowhere that could be quite an experience in the dales. Got quite a few good map books. Its good to have the national parks n hours drive away and to just go out for the day. Pickering is nice in the summer. Big wood called rapers wood. Not far down to levisom station(harry Potter). In the woods a huge grass area idea for kids etc to play and walk Si |
We have a couple of those Wilkinson books (I printed them, convenient). Used to stick to walks I knew but have been exploring more recently. Came down Snowdon recently, brilliant. I'll go up next time an come down on the train, took 4 days for knees to recover.
|
We try to do a differnt one every time.
Just pack the boots, water proof top n bottoms see where we end up. Lakes appeal to me but takes time getting up there Si |
Looks like a great trail.... for biking (and hiking). Hiked in my youth too. As you know bikes can cover soo much more territory.
UB:D |
But in a Scoob, the getting there is fun too! Expensive, but fun.
|
Yeah , i wouldnt like to bike x amount of miles because when it breaks you need to walk;)
|
I've done some walking in the Dales. Back-packed the Three Peaks many moons ago. Have a good memory of trudging past the Ribblehead Viaduct in the pouring rain
First time I did Snowdon as a Scout it was a blazing hot day, so we stopped on the way down for a swim in one of the natural pools  |
Never done snowdon actually, dont Ben Nevis.... cable car :)
That was really bleak and cold Si |
I live at Skipton, gateway to the Dales:cool:
|
I'll be doing Ben Nevis in a couple of weeks (on foot). A friend's coming up to visit, and when he suggested it I rather rashly agreed. :)
