MY98 UK car. Shoulg the heated rear window and hazard warning switches light up when the lights are on? If so, any ideas why mine might not be working?
I also noticed a multi plug port at the bottom of the dashboard on the drivers side - what is this?

greasemonkey 19 June 2003 02:26 PM

Yes, both of these should be illuminated at night. If both of them aren't, it could be a dodgy connection, although it could easily be that both of the lightbulbs have gone.

As to the connector, there are a few down there if you peer under the dash moulding, so which one do you mean exactly? If you're referring to the plug that's mounted in the bottom of the dash itself, it's the OBD/Select Monitor port.

Cheers mate. So what is an OBD selector monitor port then? What does it do and so on? As for the switches - do they come out easily?

Can't comment on changing those particular bulbs, never had to do it, although I'd suspect it's not too difficult.

As for the Select port, it's the one used by your friendly Subaru dealer to read/adjust/reset (etc.) the ECU. It's also used by the SECS Monitor, Andrew Carr's Scoobymonitor, and other gadgets to read the car's brain. Plenty's been written about this, search button would work wonders ;)

looks like i've got the same problem with the switches not lighting up.

any advice on changing the bulbs / checking the connections would be appreciated. If it is a connector, would this not stop the switches working altogether?

My switches are still working, and I still get the orange light to say the demister is on but cant see the buttons - and now I've gone and snapped one.

Also is the headlamp washer switch supposed to light up too?

I took out the switches (what a bugger) and all sems well. I reckon it must be a small bulb within the switch which would mean replacing the switch and I would imagine that would cost!

Good question about the headlamp washers - anyone?

greasemonkey 23 July 2003 03:01 PM

Only when the Bright switch is set to position 5... ;)

SCOOBY TOWERS 24 July 2003 08:59 AM

You can separte the switch and replace the bulb.
Check This for instructions and the bulb part no.

cheers chris (scoobytowers) i wil get those bulbs asap. having read that, i take it greasemonkey is taking the rip about that position 5!! i am sure mine only goes to 4. i will say that the headlamp adjsuter does light up but the headlamp washer does not light up.

greasemonkey 25 July 2003 06:27 AM

Don't know what's wrong with your Bright switch Stephen, mine goes up to 11...

Paul_M 25 July 2003 04:27 PM

Headlamp washer switch doesn't illuminate, there's only two wires going into it so no feed for illumination. Bright switch also doesn't illuminate (ironically ;) ) but all the others should.

StephenPope 28 July 2003 01:58 PM

Excellent info guys. LOL re. the swith settings to 11! Got the bulbs from that electronics shop and fitted them. What a fiddly job, but OK once you know how. Worked a treat. Only cost about 48 pence a bulb as well (cost about £7 on petrol going to the shop!!!)

Finally, I take it that the only warning that you have that the hazzard warning lights are actually on are the warnings on the dash, as the switch dows not warn you - it only lights up when the lights are on. is this correct?

SCOOBY TOWERS 28 July 2003 03:18 PM

Been out and checked for you (How sad's that) and as far as I can tell (hard to see in the daylight) your right - they don't flash etc when on / only light up with the lights.
Chris
