Off topic I know but may be of interest to owners of older cars

I have sold my 106 GTi to make way for my MY00 turbo

one of the conditions of the sale was I put it through a MOT ( fair enough )

I have a few concerns it goes it Tommorow at the main dealer it was bought
from and is serviced by I think one of the tyres on the car and the spare
are on the limit am I right in thinking and have been told, that if I remove
the spare they do not test it and you do not legally require to have a
spare.

point 2 the exhaust is starting to blow a little but it structually sound
can they fail me on that ?

point 3 the brakes, they are very effective but worn can they fail me on
this surely not if they are still efficient

point 4 how the hell do all the crap cars and old heaps that you see
infesting the roads get through if my immaculate 3 year old car with 29 k on
it won't ??

your quickest responses please

The spare wheel is not a legal requirement. Leave it at home.

The blowing exhaust, you could get away with it as long as its not falling off. They dont fail brakes on whether they are worn or not. They just stick em on the rollers and check them out. So u should be fine

POINT 4....ive got a g reg rsturbo it just passed its mot the other week. I jacked it today and found that the sills were HOLED with rust http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

how the hell did they not notice that??? well im getting sorted ASAP.

Tal,

a spare MUST be legal, but you don't need to have one. However, can you get it MOTed without, then replace for the sale?

Exhaust - dunno, does it make lots of noise?

Brakes - everything "wears", but hopefully yours are not too bad!

Crap cars - you mean those that are not taxed, insured, park on grass verges etc. Hey, there is no money to be made out of them - you gotta catch the rich speeders!!

Cheers Lads I'll give it a go !!

The exhaust is only blowing a little and is not falling to bits or anything

I'll leave the spare at home

brakes are still very good i.e it will stop on a sixpence with the ABS pumping !!

so at the worst I may have to replace one tyre, now where are those £30 remoulds !!
