I've got the 504. Probably similar . . . maybe.

Just setup Port Redirection for the two ports listed in the EDonkey settings. One UDP and one TCP.

Simliar to this.

The same applies to most other pieces of software that require certain ports to be opened for them.

i've seen that, but my router settings look nothing like that - I'll post a shot later when i get in.

cheers,

mike.

No, mines nothing like that either, but the same principle applies.

Does it look like this ?

mj 18 June 2003 03:58 PM

yes:D

now what - edonkey tells me it cannot reach port 4662 or something, where do i enter the info?

DJ Dunk 18 June 2003 04:14 PM

Thought it might ;)

Right, in the Edonkey settings, go to Network and make a note of the UDP and TCP port it wants (at the bottom).

Then in your Port Redirection bit of the router setup:

Set the protocol to TCP
Leave the 'Internet' bit alone
Enter the number you wrote down earlier (for TCP) in both start and end ports.
Enter the IP address assigned to your PC
Click Add

Do the same again for the UDP number.

Apply, reboot the router and you're off :D

how do i know my IP address - will that be be the IP address I get when I do the test from the edonkey website, or is it the same IP as my router - the one I put in the address bar to access the router settings?

DJ Dunk 18 June 2003 04:44 PM

Neither :D

What version of Windows are you using ?

Try going to the command prompt and typing ipconfig
That should give you your IP address assigned by the router.

DJ Dunk 18 June 2003 04:46 PM

BTW, the edonkey test on their site doesn't work for me, but I can connect to the EDonkey servers as well as the Overnet servers after making this change.

Which is a good thing I reckon ;)

mj 18 June 2003 04:50 PM

when i do ipconfig , a dos box flashes on the screen for about half a second and thats it :( tells me nothing.

DJ Dunk 18 June 2003 04:53 PM

Go to the command prompt via the Start Menu, not from the run box :D

Gotta go now Mike, mail me at home if you're still stuck.

ok, that works -

i have just set up the router at work as you have shpowed me thats a speedtouch 510 - even more confusing  - i set up the napt thing and now edonkey says "open" as opposed to "firewalled"

is this right? can people acces my pc now through the port i have opened to edonkey?

cheers for the help :D:D

edit for thumbs up instead of down ;)

mike.
