Just going through my renewal for a MY98 UK Turbo (208bhp?).

H&S downpipe, Scoobysport centre section, Scoobsport back box. ITG panel filter.

I have been put down as "Engine Power: Increased by Up to 10%".

I am not sure what to do here. Theoreticaly the zorts and filter will give me 30bhp or 35bhp increase?

30 / 208 * 100 = 14.423% bhp increase.

Best case scenario that I have 30/35bhp more puts me over the 10% and into the 11% to 20% band at another £73.50 and another £100 onto the excess.

What is the best thing to do here?

Cheers

Matt

Always be honest with them ....they will get their pound of flesh in the end !

My MY97 Turbo was rolling roaded at 253bhp after an H&S backbox, Magnex straight-through centre section and K&N cone filter. I know rolling road figures are only relative, but on the same day a couple of STi5 Imprezas were putting just under 290bhp, and a MY99 PPP recorded 255bhp (IIRC).

Might be worth increasing the margin with your insurance company to be on the safe side?

Thing is if I am not getting the max theoretical extra bhp from these mods then i am wasting my money.

To find out is gonna be £100 for a RR!

Arrrgghhhh, I hate this time of yr when the insurance arrives!

Oh and I didnt mention STi quikshift and sparco metal pedal plates. Do you think they matter?

If you haven't already ,give Lierpool and Victoria a try , I seem to remember reading on here that they're not that fussed by mods ! (try a search ) http://216.40.249.192/s/contrib/ruinkai/dazeda.gif

Started with LV. Renewal this yr was £1144 for just me.

Got £987 from Privilege for me _and_ the other half _and_ with business use ok too! Excess is a higher £600 instead of £250 tho.

Molds,

i was once told by a mate in insurance a few years that if u make a claim and have not told the truth about the mods, when the inspectors come and look at the car, if there are no clear visible mods, i.e zorst big enough to house a family, or three turbos under the bonnet (you get the picture), it will b ok.

if there r clear visible mods, they will look into your car very carefully and thats where u might get caught.

as i said, this info was about 4 years ago and i dont no how accurate it was/is now

£73.50 doesn't sound too bad for up to a 20% increase from what I've seen on here. At least then you can do a few more performance mods so you're nearer the 20% margin :D

This happened to me when I modded my car.

They asked they question, to which I responded "I have no idea, I'm not an engineer"

All you can do is tell them the mods and let them make the judgment.

Trbl with that Ian, it is a bit like sticking your head in the sand. There are suggested manufacturer bhp gains so we should have an idea.

I am sometimes a bit of a doomer and gloomer. What is at the back of my mind is worst case scenario. Say I am in an accident where someone gets hurt. Insurance inspectors look at the cars and it is decided that my policy was no sufficient for the mods they find. Insurance wriggle out of any responsibility, maybe even meaning I loose my liability cover?

I think deep down I know that I have to take it on the chin. I'd be dissapointed if the mods havent reached at least 80% of the manufacturers claims and therefore I need to declare over 10% increase.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I knew what I needed to do all along I just hate paying insurance co.s ;)
