I have just been to the dealer looking at shortblocks.

Is the EJ207 a STI shortblock or just a newer version of the EJ205?????

Thanks,
Skassa

Yep EJ207 is STI but there are several different versions of STI blocks

Hmm,
The difference between the ej205 and the ej207 is only 80£

Do anyone know if it´s a semiclosed block

Thanks,
Skassa

Do you mean the bottom end that's pretty strong? ;) I think Frank off the Swiss/German Impreza boards fitted an entire STi7 bottom end into his GT...and is pretty happy with the results :D

Richard,
Yes it´s a complete shortblock.

Here in Denmark the price is 1650£ for the EJ205,
And 1730£ for the EJ207 shortblock

EJ205 and EJ207 block castings are the same for MY99-00, short motors differ in terms of pistons only. If you are looking to get hold of a short engine (block) then the STi7 one is best as it is semi closed deck as opposed to open deck, thats what I use in my car and its been good. All Sti engines from MY99 up are EJ207 but the MY01 onwards are semi closed deck.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone know a partnumber for the semiclosed block or shortblock.

If your going to pay for a new short motor. Why not go for the EJ25 or even the EJ25 sti motor from the states.
Apart from the 25% increase in capacity the 100mm bore is even more efficient then the 92.7mm bore when it comes to opening up the combustion chamber and unshrouding the valves.

Q´s,

Can a EJ25 block be used with just other pistons???

There is not a semiclosed EJ25 block is there

And what about the heads, use the OE ej20 or use the Ej25heads

Thanks,
SKassa

Skassa,

The 2.5 needs different pistons and con rods. 2.0 Turbo heads are fine. (or need porting if you want BIG HP)

Open deck should be O.K. until about 1.5 bar of boost?

Mark.

Thanks,MArk

I will proceed with this project.

Somebody might correct me, but I noticed two different STi closed deck blocks (unknown MY): one was externaly looking like EJ205/EJ207 but closed deck while the other was externaly looking quite different: apparently more water room around cylinders, casted stiffners around those water chambers like the v.7 & 8...

Anyone ever noticed something looking like that ?

yep esp on the vesion 1 ltd 100 model total closed man compared to a wrx one and they both have the same block no ?
