I have a bit of a problem which is slowly driving me completely crazy. We
have 3 computers, all running xp home edition which are networked through
normal wires/hub configuration, nothing fancy and until recently were
working very nicely through xp. However, i think this may have happened when
i was having a clean up in the add/remove programs screen although i cant
think of anything specific which might have caused it. Now no matter how
much i try and re-run the windows xp network setup wizard the network just
completely fails to work, they dont see each other in the workgroup, zilch!
Does anybody have any ideas plleeeasee?

You need to check things like:

All PC's are set to use the same workgroup name.

Take it they all have fixed IP addresses? If so check they are all still set to a fixed address i.e. 192.168.0.1 etc etc. You might of removed something that has changed them back to "obtain IP address from DHCP server" (assuming your not running a server).

Once you have checked above see if you can ping the other PC's.

Does XP not come with it's own 'firewall' type settings for each PC ?

To get my home network to see my XP laptop I needed to disable the firewall settings on the laptop to make it visible to the other pc's.

Buggered if I can remember how or where I set them though - a quick search on help should point you in the right direction

1: make sure all the Nic cards are working. not disabled.
2: bring up a command promt and run winipcfg/all this will give you your ip config make sure they all are correct.
3: ping your local address for the card ping 127.0.0.1 and get a reply
4: if you have a multi homed system i.e. two nic's then is one card set as the internet connection shareing. this will make the other card 192.168.0.1. if this is the case this machine wil act as the NAt and DHCP server.
5: If using ICS make sure the other pc's are set to get IP automaticly.
6; do a ipconfig/ renew and see if ip gets the dhcp address
7: if not set the pc's to static within the same 192.168.0.X range
if youv'e done all this u will find the problem...
