Got a home network. 4 Port Router 1 PC (Mine on the 2nd Floor) 2 PC's on the 1st floor + router. The router is 20m or so from my room.Got a cable at the moment but i want 2 net connections. Do i a) buy another huge cable and use the last port? b) can i buy one from wall plugs(Rj45 ethernet wall socket for 2 ports), But would i need 2 lines or wire going to that or could i share one somehow? Here diagram PC1+2 are 1st floor. Si Dotted proposed idea [Edited by super_si - 6/17/2003 12:59:11 PM] |
Buy a second router and use the uplink connection between the routers. £40 and your done in 2 minutes.

Cant you just use the existing routers uplink port and buy a length of crossover?

ive being looking at them actually. I like netgear im looking at the Here What else would i need? Also would it work from down stairs? + compatable with PS2? Si |
Put another hub downstairs, thus leaving you 3 ports avaliable on the router upstairs and another few ports avaliable downstairs.

Cheers ian think im gonna put 8 port switch in my room. That way i can drop cables down to my brothers room and enough scope to upgrade

What else would i need? Also would it work from down stairs? + compatable with PS2? As for working downstairs, what's your house made of? Works fine upstairs/downstairs in our circa-1985 plasterboard house, but siting of the AP/router and antenna positioning is crucial. Should be compatible with PS2 via an Ethernet->wireless bridge (but they're ludicrously expensive for what they do -- cost almost as much as an AP!) |
Might be better just using the old fashioned way then
