What are the best upgrade bulbs to put in an STI8? I want to be able to see where im going in the dark and the standard units are rubbish. Also how easy are they to change? Havent looked yet

Consensus on here is the Philips Vision Plus 50% brighter ones, about £20 from Powerbulbs with free matching sidelights.
Can't help with fitting, I only have a 98 UK turbo:(: Alcazar |
Fitted Philips V+ to my 03 WRX. Offside is easy, but the battery gets in the way on the nearside, it took ages to get it in!
Probably easier to take the battery out, or loosen it and move slightly backwards. Defo recommend the Philips bulbs though, until Prodrive announce the driving light kit, anyone know when it will be available? Powerbulbs.com do them for £20 inc side lights. Dan |
what do people reckon of the piaa extreme white bulbs 55w becomes 110w,pricey at £60 will they blow the electrics?

Won't blow anything as they're the same input power rating as the standard bulbs. Biggest problems with the PIAA high output bulbs are the very high cost and the reputation for being a bit fragile.
The Philips bulbs look like a good deal at less than a third of the price, while the group buy elsewhere on this forum looks even better... |
The PIAA bulbs cost a lot of money, and there have been numerous postings on here complaining of their fragility, and others who say theirs last for ever:D:
Looking at them scientifically, if they're drawing the same current, at the same voltage, (giving the same Watts drawn), they must be getting the filament hotter. The only ways to do this would be a different alloy, and a thinner filament, or a combination of the two. As they claim DOUBLE the wattage:eek:, my guess would be thinner filament......and the fragility that goes with it. I DID notice a difference with the PVP bulbs and they ARE noticably whiter from the front too. Auto Express did a test about a year ago: not all uprated bulbs are the same. Some cost less, but are not made to the same quality, their filaments are slightly in the wrong position, and they put their extra light all over the place. Try the PVP's.....you won't be dissapointed. Alcazar |
Gary,
the best are the bulbs i organised on the "Xenon bulb" group buy, I have the bulbs for an 8, let me know if you are interested i should have added that some 8 owners already have them, and they are cheaper than PVP [Edited by JGRIFF - 21/06/2003 12:01:53] |
