I was never a big fan of the vx220, being an elise owner i prefered the badge, however, watching topgear and the way it was danced around that track, sign me up, very tempted indeed.

if only lotus would produce an elise with big horses............

Tim-Grove 15 June 2003 09:29 PM

It did look very nice didn't it:D:D

chrisp 15 June 2003 09:35 PM

Bit too small for me, I could get in but I doubt I would get out :D. I still prefer the Elise styling I just dont like the chrome grill and V on the front, it just doesnt suit the car IMHO.

Errr, what, you mean like this one http://www.pistonheads.com/lotus/eli...p?storyId=6789

jjones 15 June 2003 10:02 PM

didn't he say lotus made a 190 bhp one???

chrisyd 15 June 2003 10:09 PM

yeah, sport 190, 33 grand in comparison to 24 for the turbo vx

davyboy 15 June 2003 10:26 PM

Millets.

sempers 16 June 2003 03:20 PM

Hmm...

The same Clarkson as moaned about the understeering Elise MkII - Fairy snuff... until the man from lotus came and drove it around the track sideways

Not saying he's not right, but you have to wonder..

Still, want a VX220T (please!) :D:D:D

skiddus_markus 16 June 2003 05:40 PM

Clarkson always berates his own driving yet he seemed to be controlling the oversteer pretty well(apart from the spin). It looked like it was going to snap round and he'd just pull it back into line.Well done Lotus/Vauxhall.

Dream Weaver 16 June 2003 06:05 PM

Liked it, dont give a crap about badges. If it was a Skoda I would have it :)

Mega 16 June 2003 06:32 PM

The Vx has 215 bhp per ton, the EVO8 has 215 bhp per ton. The VX did a lap in 1.33, the EVO in 128.9........does four wheel drive always win?

Stig has to fight the VX like Senna, in the EVO he looked like he was going shopping!

Know which i buy!

Tim-Grove 16 June 2003 06:41 PM

All the driver aids and cleaver gizmos on the EVO made the difference take them away and it would have been a different story.

J4CKO 16 June 2003 08:21 PM

The Evo is a fast mini cab with spoilers, a lot of them driven by drug dealers wheras the VX220 is a mid engined sportscar, I would have either but the VX220 is so much nicer to look at.

Scoob99 16 June 2003 08:24 PM

Calling DaveT-S:D

Tim-Grove 16 June 2003 08:55 PM

BTW I wasn’t putting the EVO down just pointing out that it does have a lot of driver aids compared to the VXT.

what would scooby do 17 June 2003 08:32 AM

But unfair comparing a 2 seater mid engined semi track day special with a 4 door 4 wheel drive saloon.

I'd have the vx as a second car (albiet as an Opel)
If I had to own just one car it would be the Evo/scoob

:D

CrisPDuk 17 June 2003 01:23 PM

I've always preferred the look of the VX to the Elise, besides around here Lotus's are like clitorii:D

The drug dealers in your area have style :D

I'd take the vx220, looks the biz

Got my VXT a month ago, got rid of a STi Type UK PPP to get it.

I wouldn't go back - 540kg lighter, and boy does it show!

I was on track at PalmerSport a couple of weeks ago in one of theirs. They are running a fleet of VXT's, and they have stood up to three months of thrashing six days a week, and the only mods are different brake pads - they are even on the standard RE040 road tyres.

They have incredible cornering ability and are very forgiving, even in the wet (but we did lose count of the number of spins on one wet pushing on session :D ).

Go test drive one, great fun.........:)
