i've always wondered whats the fastest road legal car in the world, i know the Mclaren is very quick and veilsides skyline is too. but i want to know what is the actualy fastest car in the world which is road legal, modded and un-modded.
anyone got any ideas of what it is or what it could be? |
how do you mean? staight line or round a track?
mike |
oh yeah sorry to add, top speed
|
Fastest production car in the world?
McLaren F1 - 240mph The only modification was to remove the rev limiter. |
I reckon there is a twin turbo Ultima that will beat that at 1300 bhp, trying to search the website out...
edited: http://www.ultimaclub.com/index-site.htm try that... no top speeds yet, but only a matter of time... [Edited by ajm - 6/14/2003 6:46:05 AM] |

heard this is suppose to be a contender to the McLaren F1, they haven't tested its top speed either yet, looks alot nicer than the McLaren. |
don't some of the jap skylines do 240mph+ ?
|
...TVR speed 12 looks a lot nicer than a Maclaren F1
There is no accounting for taste ;) Gastro |
Sticking on a big body kit and boosting the engine to make 1400 HP without consideration to gearing and drag on a Skyline won't make it do 240 MPH or anywhere near that. Although I like to see a source that claims that they did. Sorry Fast and the Furious fans. :)
The fastest road legal car you could have purchased is the 1988 Callaway Corvette Sledgehammer - a verified top speed of 254 MPH. |
Yep that 'vette even had air con.
|
I've heard alot about this Vette, anyone got a pictures or links?
|
.......that site is saying the ultima could be doing over 245mph using just its 780bhp.....when they have 1300bhp who knows?...once tested!...they also reckon on 7 sec 1/4 miles one day........if thats true...kin hell!

well i'm afraid you maybe wrong there Cosworth427 because every year they do the speed trials down at New Zealand and Veilsides skyline quite easily passed 327kph mark, which i believe if my maths is right is over 240mph.
whoops miscalculation. yeah but note it didn't top out at that speed and some of the veilside engineers think it can go well over 400pkh+. [Edited by the chosen one - 6/14/2003 9:25:35 PM] |
Sorry to be pedantic but 327 Km/h is just 203 Mph. But IIRC this was achieved on a public road and is a record nevertheless. |
The Koenigsegg must be a contender at 243mph. One is tested on Top Gear in the near future.
|
Are we talking top speed, acceleration, lap times or what?
For acceleration, the Z-cars' twin-engined Tiger has to be well up there with the best, 0-60 in about 2.5 secs IIRC. |
Okay "The fastest road legal car in the world"
The fastest = has attained the highest top speed (and proof of this run) road legal = its perfectly legal to use this car on the road in the world = planet Earth in the solar system ;) Anyone got anything higher than the 'vette yet [Edited by chrisp - 6/14/2003 8:56:10 PM] |
thanx for that chrisp mate, that'll sort out some of the people who can't interpret my words lol:D
