Well it can't be Perry McCarthy (unless there's some sort of double bluff going on).

The Stig is (according to Autosport) racing in a 24hr 2CV race at Snetterton this weekend.

Perry McCarthy is racing the Audi R8 at Le Mans this weekend.

Why is everyone still thinking that "the stig" is one person ;)

Anne Robinson's article in last weekend's Sunday Times said it was an extremely famous racing driver with a posh southern accent.

I still think its Hill as him and Jezza have been mates for years.

I originally thought it was Damon Hill too, but he does'nt look tall enough.

Checkout the online Telegraph motoring section from Saturday 14th June - in the "But is it art?" story they talk about one of the two professional test drivers on Top Gear, Perry McCarthy (the Stig) and how he damaged the 1953 Jag Le Mans winner.

Frank Biela ran the Audi R8 out of fuel before Perry McCarthy got to drive. Maybe he's not even at La Sarthe ;)

The commentator on Eurosport casually said that Perry McCarthy was 'The Stig' yesterday before the start of the Le Mans 24 hours :D

Cos surely if it wasnt then it would make a mockery of the lap times compared for each car they review then let the stig drive?

As Merlin said - this was in the Telegrah Motoring section on Saturday. There are two drivers used by Top Gear. One is Perry McCarthy, the othe one they didn't name. So yes, it does make a mockery of the lap times. But it is only TV, so who cares? :)

Just got back from Le Mans and chatted to Perry McCarthy a few times. He was asked directly if he was "The Stig" and joked about it in front of the audience in the MRI hostility tent. However, afterwards, chatting with him and the MRI staff he did unofficially confirm it and thought it no big deal as everyone knew by now.

Nicolas Minassian drives a Top Gear sponsored ASCAR and he's French.
