ARRON BIRD 12 June 2003 11:12 AM

Does anyone actually know???

matt5cott 12 June 2003 11:15 AM

STI9?

ARRON BIRD 12 June 2003 11:17 AM

Very funny!!!!!Any more wise cracks then or do we actually have anything intelligent to add to this straight-forward post???????

SPEN555 12 June 2003 11:20 AM

Well if they want to return to winning ways on the WRC scene then they will need to bring out a 2/3 door as they are currently getting creamed by Pugs and Citroens. Also 3 door Focus is looking better now.

It looks like Mitsubishi are preparing themselves to return to rallying with a 2/3 door.

WagonRich 12 June 2003 11:44 AM

I think there might be a little more to winning than removing two doors....

Rich

stephen emery 12 June 2003 11:45 AM

scooby soft top :D

steve

Tone Loc 12 June 2003 11:52 AM

Yep... think that it's not just the number of doors that's the pattern with the winning cars. Look at the size of the cars, the Subaru is just too big to compete with the smaller 206, Focus, Xara and the Mitsubish Colt when it arrives IMHO.

Back to the question tho..... i don't know. I'd imagine they continue with an STi8. Maybe we would get the 2.5l over here for the 9.... and the DCCD. Maybe not tho knowing Subaru UK  .

Tony.

SPEN555 12 June 2003 11:57 AM

By reverting to 2/3 door it would allow the chassis to be shorter and thereby be in line with the current crop of WRC's.

To remain as they are will see them left behind as they are doing nothing at the moment.

For the STi9 the natural progression would be the 2.0l twin scroll.

MikeWood 12 June 2003 11:59 AM

Pity we are already on STi9 then........ :)

Mike

PS I think you'll find that Subaru UK aren't to 'blame' for not getting the same spec as vehicles in other markets, they try very hard to get the best specification possible for our market.

D6ale 12 June 2003 11:59 AM

dont mind what we get as long as it's not that ugly alfa-scoob that keeps popping up in auto express with " New impreza " written all over it.

please dont make it the replacement impreza....

ARRON BIRD 12 June 2003 12:11 PM

Mike thought you might know.
Where`s my springs.
By the time you sort it for me I will need an STI 9 ;)

Andy Hamilton 12 June 2003 12:28 PM

Well, how about this then.......:D

Fastest Impreza Wings In

The fastest Impreza ever developed is set to blast from rally stage to the road later this year, according to Subaru sources in Japan. Company bosses are talking about bringing a limited-edition production version of the Impreza World Rally Car to Japanese showrooms by December. It's known as the WRCar road-going project, and the body will be prepared by Subaru's Isesaki studio.

While Isesaki's work is understood to be of the highest quality, the firm has only recently switched operations from manufacturing buses to concentrate on designing special interest, low-volume production models. As strange as this might seem, Isesaki has a long association with tuned Subarus.

Most memorably, the company was responsible for the outrageous-looking red-and-black chopped-top Impreza, which was unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January. Lowered by 100mm, the car demonstrated the firm's skills in making complex structural modifications, and its engine tuning expertise. However, according to our insider, the WRCar project will be a more straightforward affair. On Peter Lyon

pics can be seen here, I'm sure some one will make it clicky ;) :)

Aaron

Funny you should say that, something arrived here about an hour ago!

Talk to you later

Mike

Pavlo 12 June 2003 12:37 PM

With all this talk of the subaru being a 'big' car. Can someone please explain how the wheelbase is less than a Ford Focus?

Paul

Andy Tang 12 June 2003 12:38 PM

MY99 - STI5
MY00 - STI6
MY01 - STI7
MY02 - STI8
MY03 - STI9!!

So I guess the question is, will the STI10 have DCCD and the twin scroll turbo? Or even the 2.5 litre engine that the US market has?

Floyd 12 June 2003 12:42 PM

Arron, why not get a 350Z if you want rear wheel drive dynamics?

I'd of said get a BMW but you've been there...

F

STi wanna Subaru 12 June 2003 12:42 PM

Wasn't the MY01/02 the STi 7?

Krade 12 June 2003 12:45 PM

May be wrong but, Im sure I heard last year that Subaru are thinking of building a 3 door hatch back in the focus/206 mold for the WRC.

Bajie 12 June 2003 12:47 PM

Clicky

Phil 12 June 2003 12:50 PM

Mike

Did I pick up that the Springs for the MY03 Imprezza III Sti UK ;o)

will be with us soon ?

Phil

Tone Loc 12 June 2003 12:55 PM

Paul... isn't that one of the points. The car is big/long but it has a shorter wheelbase... not ideal. The overhangs front and rear are so much more (or they look it) than say the 206. The Subaru is nearly 25cm longer but has nearly a 10cm shorter wheelbase. Just looking at them side by side the Subaru doesn't look as nimble.... the layout could be good for some events but it appears that on most it can't cut it.

Tony.

speedking 12 June 2003 01:01 PM

But the pictures are just the World Rally Car. There's no way this jap special edition would have a UK registration. I don't think anyone could live with that spoiler on the public highway either:eek:

GU5 12 June 2003 01:01 PM

So keeping in line with the Japanese tradition of (rap car names, the next one will be a STIX then ;)

chiark 12 June 2003 01:02 PM

They're hardly getting creamed - Solberg didn't do a bad job, and only missed second by 6 seconds, or the amount of time that McRae held him up on the last day.

The models we get over here are for the European market, not just for the UK. Someone somewhere decided that the EU doesn't need DCCD or twin scroll. IM don't have the final say on the matter.

There is talk in EVO of a 7 seater Impreza, sort of people carrier thing. Yuk.

Tone Loc 12 June 2003 01:13 PM

I wouldn't say they're getting creamed but 4th in the championship with Peugeot on practically double the points Subaru has is hardly front running pace either.... :( . Ohhh i remember the good old days....... ;) .

Tony.

ARRON BIRD 12 June 2003 01:17 PM

Thanks Mike.
I await the call of nature.
Nope it does not mean that the STI 8 springs are in .
This is a seperate spring kit totally designed from scratch for my Fiat Panda.

oradba69 12 June 2003 01:41 PM

Next short wheel base car on WRC from Subaru will be the Saab 9-2

carrot-sti 12 June 2003 03:02 PM

Have a look at this

GU5 12 June 2003 04:21 PM

I thought the Channel Islands were on the same time as us, it now appears that they're a couple of months behind ;)

alcazar 12 June 2003 05:04 PM

All this stuff about how the Impreza is losing out to the "other " world rally cars.........
The Impreza is the ONLY world rally car........all the others can't be bought in WRC form for the road for ANY amount of money , and therefore are not "proper" WRC's, just prototypes that their manufacturers are allowed:(: to run.
