it is possible to connect 2 PCs together with 100mbit NIC and a CAT5 cross over cable but is it the same with gigabit NIC? will i get gigabit connection?

You may be lucky, some gigabit cards don't need a cross over cable.

I have two intel Gigabit cards linked via a straight thru cable.

If we are talking about 1000BaseT then a crossover cable is a no no.

i was just think, if the cross over cable work with 100mbit NIC, then shouldn't it work with gigabit NIC?

1000BaseT uses all 4 pairs. Std X-over wont work. This site has a 1000BaseT x-over cabling diagram.

Never tried it myself though...
