I had been running a Scoobysport centre and back box for a while. Great sound and really accentuated the boxer dugga dugga sound.

Last Friday TSL fitted my H&S downpipe.

I love the obviously faster spool up and the louder roar when the right foot gets heavy. The turbo spooling up and down also makes a great little sound which was much less obvious before (unless I am confusing that with more air coming through the newly fitted ITG panel?).

But,....what has happened to the tick over, very low rev crawling in traffic dugga dugga? Clearly it is still louder than stock but defintely it dugga'd louder without the downpipe?

Is this something to do with equal/unequal length downpipes or summut?

Cannot exactly remember which way around but i would imagine it's the unequal length that create the dugga-dugga sound.

I am sure someone with even the tiniest amount of knowledge will put you right ;)

I have read of such a thing, but I though that was the manifold rather than the downpipe?

Downpipe shouldn't make a difference, changing the manifold will make it sound like a Suzuki GSXR1000 with a race can :D

The Zohan 10 June 2003 10:32 AM

Probably is the manifold, just woring from memory (which is dodgy at the best of times)

I had a Firestorm back box & TSL centre section onto a stock downpipe and it boomed, recently had the TSL downpipe fitted and the boom has gone. :( It has raised the tone more to a scream from 4k upwards and very tinny. Not what I was expecting. I'm going to give Trouser a ring and see what he says, I might go back to the stock downpipe or try another make.

"Is this something to do with equal/unequal length downpipes or summut?"... No... not unless you are running a twin scroll or twin turbo car.

Removing the downpipe cat will have significantly reduced restriction to gas flow, so, like porting the standard headers, the general running noise will probably be reduced.

mine did exactly the same, so i put the cat back on, it now makes a much better sound and i well pleased.

Molds 10 June 2003 05:40 PM

Which cat P1?

I have a Firestorm Backbox with a Magnex twindump D/P and non-resonated center section. It 'duggas' for England!

Molds 13 June 2003 04:47 PM

I don't really want to take the d/p back off. Definitely better drive with it on. I'd like to regain some of the volume of sound though. I'm running H&S d/p and Scoobysport centre and back box (also H&S?). What do you think about me perhaps changing the back box? Would something like the Firestorm louden (new word :)) it back up?

Cheers

Molds 13 June 2003 05:57 PM

I beleive you are correct on that point sinky :)

Not sure a louden guitar will achieve the result I am looking for :D

(Edited cus I put stinky instead of sinky. Oops!)

Mine did exactly the same when i added the H&scott downpipe.
It made it sound raspy with less dugga dugga.

Not many people replied to me when i asked...

Scoobysport exhausts are now made by Janspeed - not H&S. They have a different sound (not quite as deep as the H&S). Personally I prefer the slightly deeper note of the original H&S - but it's your choice. You can still get the original design by contacting H&S direct.

i have a scorpion down pipe n tsl firestorm this sounds wicked dugga dugga right past the cop shop love it beeeeeeitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Molds 13 June 2003 10:14 PM

My back box is defo a Scoobysport/H&S as its a yr old. The centre will be Scoobysport/Janspeed and the d/p came straight from H&S in the recent grp buy.

Been out tonight for so "fun". I guees what I am missing is when you are at a junction and the local Lax Power kids check me out, I am not drowning out their Binatone stez with my boxer heart beat.

With the pedal down then the sound is fine. I think I will just learn to live with the bit of tick over/low rev dugga missing, forsaken for the gains of the d/p.

BTW Had a Cooper S egg me on for a tussle tonight. Clear, wide road and our route was spot on for advanced visibility, even on the twisty bits. Decided to accomodate him (ooer). Pleased to say it wasn't a problem to real him in. He was good on the corners but having just had TSL put Eibachs on and do my geom he wasn't having any luck shaking me :D

Edited to say: what is the bhp, 0-60 on a CooperS anyway?

It isn't that it has gone, just not so loud and the note not as deep - just at low revs and tick over.

Not really a problem, I am pleased with the d/p, just not what I had expected. If anything I thought it would be louder throught the rev range, no just higher up.

PS The manifold is the stock item. I have not changed it.
