Does anyone know of any decent hotels in:

Glasgow, north of Erskine Bridge assuming travel towards Loch Lomond.

Scarborough.

Just want somewhere like Holiday Inn Express / Ibis / Travel Lodge sort of thing. Not keen on small hotels, as have stayed in too much crud with work! Nearest place we can find to Scarborough is a Holiday Inn Express on the edge of York.

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Thanks. :)

Suppose 40 miles away isn't the end of the world. Cheers for that :)

Anyone know of any decent hotels near the Erskine Bridge?

Couple of decent travel inns (with pubs :) ) approx 5 miles from bridge (oppo direction from Loch Lomond unfortunately), but in nice setting, and easy access to bridge.

See here . fling addresses into multimap for a look.

Milngavie is the official start of the West Highland way. Views of the Campsies ....... bit nicer than yer average lodge 4 that reason. :)

You'll probably find somewhere nice out at Balloch too (on the Lochside) which may suit your "towards Loch Lomond" req better.

Travel lodge at the airport / paisley (other side of bridge) but they're in pretty much ind estates. :(

Thanks for the link mik :)

We're only stopping on the way to Kintyre late at night, so views etc don't matter - as long as it's clean and quiet. We're travelling with the kids (4 & 6) from the Midlands to Campbeltown, and just want somewhere handy to stop off for the night. The Travel Lodge at the airport sounds promising.

Hadn't realised your requirements kevin ~ have boys of 2 & 5 so know what you're after now! :)

Airport lodge is a possible, and there is also a travel-lodge just off M8 immediately after you cross the Kingston Bridge.

This one is right off the motorway and would allow you to go either M8 to Erskine Br or Clydeside expressway onto A82 and avoid the bridge altogether....which saves you 60p (whoooh  ) but negates traversing the only bridge in the UK that the royals are (allegedly) not allowed to travel over.........

Can get more specific details if u interested mate :)

I stayed in the travel lodge next to Harry Ramsden's below the Kingston Bridge for a night last summer. It's a dump, even a morning breakfast fry-up in the chip shop didn't make things better :( Best stay at the airport IMHO, as long as it's not overpriced...

That's the one I was thinking of Zax.....not so good then :(

The downside of living close to these is that I don't have recourse to use them very often.... :)

Cumberland Hotel, Scarborough, Belmont Road - excellent food and great value for money. Close to beach lift, shops etc

Travel lodge at Glasgow Airport won't be quiet.

Stay out of Glasgow City Centre Travel Inns, they are usually fine, but parking can be a pain.

Whats your timing like, there are loads of nicer places north of the Erskine Bridge on the A82.

The lodge on the loch at Luss (about 20 minutes north of the Erskine Bridge) is a bit pricey, but well worth it for the views in the morning when you wake up :)

stunning views

And its right off the A82

In Dumbarton itself there is

Abbotsford

or

Dumbuck

Just south of the bridge in Erskine itself is the

Cosmopolitan

there is a travel lodge just before dumbarton on the A82 which would probably be ideal. Its just 5 minutes north of the Erskine Bridge

Thanks for everyone's responses :)

The Lodge by Loch Lomond looks gorgeous. May well go back up there with just the Mrs :D
