i wondered what big brake kits people would recommend? i'm looking at getting either the ap racing 335mm 6-pot kit or the tsl 335mm 6-pot kit at the moment, any help would be really useful.

I've been told that the AP 6pots are a bit over the top for road use! I've got a set of AP 4pot 330mm with Pagid RS15 pads and have found them to be good on road and track.

I have the prodrive alcon 330mm kit and they are awesome. Done a couple track days and they never fail to impress.

The TSL 6 pots are also fantastic, and are what I intended to get before I got offered a cheap set of prodrives.

I've got the Godspeed 335mm kit that uses the original four pot calipers, great for road and 'light' track use, a compramise!!

Stop talking about 'pots' and talk about discs. If you want good brakes, get big, quality two-part discs. The calipers are secondary. Then when you've spent weeks weighing it all up, just buy the appropraite AP Racing kit. There is nothing better.

Have the AP monster kit, f**in huge needed new studs and spacers for them 360mm disc with 6 pot calipers, stop on a penny now (needed 18's on the car b4 hand though)

thanks for everyones help, i think i will go for the ap's. a company i phoned did suggest brembo 4 pot's (same as ferrari f40's!) with 332mm disc that i was tempted by but i think i'll stick with the ap's.

The thing I like about APs is that, apart from being unquestionably better or at least as good as anything else available, AP make offical kits packaged with a set of balanced components specifically for Scoobs (and many other high-performance cars). If you're buying AP brakes, make sure you get the official kit - there are other kits about using some AP components, but they are cheaper and not so good.

I will concede that Brembo also know a bit about brakes and the F40's Brembo's are probably adequate-ish ;) :D but the main reason Ferrari use them is because they're Italian. Most of the other F1 teams use AP and even Ferrari use AP clutches.

A further twist to this fascinating tale (stay awake at the back there!) is that Brembo have owned AP Racing for almost a couple of years now. (Brembo are very big manufacturers, and AP Racing are relatively tiny). The two operations are run entirely separately but it would be logical for Brembo to go the mass production route for fast production cars, like the STi, and reserve AP products for racing and other high-speed specialist applications.

I have a brembo 4 pot setup (308mm) with AP discs and bells and mintex 1144 pads......... my car stops ;):D:D:D:D
330mm are about as large as you will ever need, 308mm are very good on the road, 6 pots are severe overkill unless you go on the track every week...... best setup?
330mm with 4 pots.

While I was in the pits at the last BTCC meeting, all the cars except the Alfa, used AP's. The Alfa had Brembos (and came last - I made that bit up BTW ;) ).

if i'm going to spend the money upgrading the brakes then i might as well go the whole hog and get the 6-pots so i don't regred it and keep wondering what the 6-pots would have been like. that and i want to be able to out brake my mates nsx! :)

i'm on holiday at the moment but when i get back and get the car back from the bodyshop (hopefully soon after i get back) i'll be getting the ap 6-pots.

That's why the piston sizes on the AP calipers are normally the same for every application is it and give a larger piston area by some margin than the OE calipers? ;)

The reason that everyone uses AP brakes in BTCC is that they are the control brakes, they HAVE to use them. :)

Well I've got the Prodrive Alcon 330mm kit and after several track days I can confidently say the hotter they get, the better they get. They just DON'T fade :D

Mike what was the thinking behind the one piece discs tho? I've heard stories of the heat dissipating into the hubs in extreme examples?

Just a thought guys, but why limit yourself to 6 pots?? Have heard that AP kits are great, never tried them myself, but i can say with absolute certainty, that TAROX 10 pot kit is AWSOME!!!!! Plant your foot, and your innards are sucked through the front of the car. Nice... :)

Much as I love Prodrive (and have spent several grand proving it) I don't think we want to get into an AP vs Alcon debate, do we ;)

And didn't I see a rather fine Ferrari on the Prodrive stand at Autosport Show with some very tasy brakes on it? Buggered if I can remember the brand but as Prodrive only fit the best they must have been... ;) :)

Subaru WRC car uses Alcon...

Porsche GT3 brake set-up works well, but you need to pick your wheels first :)

WRC uses alcon with a two piece rotor. Shame the Alcon upgrade doesn't come with it as I like the brakes, but I'm on my third set of discs..I asked Alcon at the motor show (trade day) if they could supply a separate bell and discs to fit the p1/ upgrade kit and they promised to get back to me. Still waiting............

I second Dowser's comment! Porsche GT3 (Mov'it) brakes for me anytime.

Mike, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying but I know what you're agenda is.

If Prodrive did a seperate disc/bell alcon set up, then I'd have considered it but as it isn't, then I didn't shortlist it- sorry.

OK, i might be the odd man out...

I have a set of Stoptech calipers, rotors, brake lines and pagid brake pads...

I use it on the Zolder Circuit every month, which is known to be extremely heavy on the brakes... And it's awesome...

I spent a whole year trying to find the best brake kit for my money. I've yet to regret a second of it...

I think they're about as good as the AP 330 6-pot, and better than Prodrive or Brembo.

Pads last forever (close to 1000km track and just over half now), and discs even longer...

they fit under most 17" wheels (OZ Corsa Gold in my case), try that with your AP or Mov'it

Problem with Mov'it it that in 95% of cases you have to use spacers, which f*cks up geometry

oh and discs and pads don't cost an arm and a leg

Depends on which road you take.

If you follow the road as set on Ben Lovejoy's page, you follow the E40 highway from brussels for quite a long time, however if you switch to the E314 highway near LEUVEN to take the direction of AACHEN (AKEN) you pass the ZOLDER circuit.

I'm at Zolder on the 25th probably driving from 4-5pm
