Looking for a way to network 2 or 4 machines together that also allows the hub to be the ADSL modem. Since i am FINALLY about to go ADSL and need to get the modem together i though i could kill several birds with one stone and buy some sort of box that would allow me to connect friends computers and extra computers in my house to the same ADSL line at same time :)

Any recommends? reviews? prices?

Also i am complete network n00b so the easier to set up the better!

The netgear one gets my vote. Currently typing this via the wireless one..

I use a Zyxel Prestige 643 - it's not a new design, nor is it especially cheap, but it does 'just work'. No crashes, no reboots, just plug in, configure and forget.

I'm using a D-link DSL-504 and am very happy with it. :D

I have a DSL-504 that needs to be sold tp a good home if you are interested ? I moved to NTL so no need for it anymore. I second the fact that they are excellent (even when i bough mine when it was tripple figures ! :) )

I use a D-link DSL-604+ which is an integrated ADSL modem, 4-port 10/100 hub and wireless access point. Cost about 200 quid, but it does everything and is extremely easy to configure. And it's really nice to just get home, fire up the laptop and read my email / surf scoobynet from the lounge without any trailing wires.

The 604 is a 802.11b+ wireless system (11/22Mbps) but I understand there's a new model coming out which will be compatible with the faster 802.11g/a versions.

Had heard good things about the D link.

Few points, why are you selling one due to a move to NTL? I may be interested :)

Whats this speed thing about PaulT00? It sounds gobble gook to me can you explain in plain english? Can i use a wireless network card with the D link if i wanted to?

Speed thing refers to 10 or 100 Mbps (megabits per second). To be honest, for home use, 10Mbs is fine. You'll find most hubs are 10/100 these days as the price has dropped so much. Also, most network interface cards in PCs and laptops are 10/100. Normally they will have an autosense feature to negotiate the speed to be used.

Netgear have an equivalent model as well. Haven't tried it but D-Link and Netgear are both well known "name" brands.

Zyxel 643......installed and seen hundreds of these and only ever had one duff one......when I traveled all the up North to install one for DazV :)

Love my Netgear DG814, but might be a little pricey for you.
