I have noticed on here that there seems to be a lack of enthusiasm for the newer members on the board...

Questions such as 'cossie Vs Scoob' seem to get the replys of 'boring' or 'been done'

Now that may well be the case, but to this member it is his first time on the boards and so he wasn't involved before.
This site is meant to be a wealth of information, this is where people come to find out the facts, and not what people say down the pub.

Before you say 'search', not every one is capable of this, the search function doesnt work on 2 out of my 3 computers.

This isnt aimed towards any particular members, but as the community as a whole. Its not a request for a 10,000 word essay in reply to a question, but either a simple answer like 'yes a sti did have 280 BHP' or maybe a link to another thread that discussed it.

We were all new once, lets make sure that they feel welcome

i did notice this when i 1st joined actualy, lots of views and stuff but not many replies, but think of it this way

u wouldnt just walk into a unknown pub and say "is a scooby faster then a corworth"

i dunno what im talking about lol
ignore me im insane pmsl

wooohoooo

Jongould-work- But also the threads are constantly being repeated and you always get blatant mis-use of the different sections.

A little thought on proper usuage would also save the moderators work.

It's not difficult to try a search first is it?

Just like it's not difficult to advertise a car in for sale and not in general.

The search problem seems to be related to your scoobynet cookie so maybe worth deleting it, you will then be prompted form your username and password. This has worked for people in the past.

A lot of problems with newbies is that the question have been asked before. I did asks for a newbie/faq forum and even said I would help with answers and helping people coming onto the board, definitely not as a mod though as I wouldnt want my hands tied with supplying answers though. It would be a places where people could ask daft/intro/newbie questions but it was thought not to be needed. So we are in this situation where some newbies get help and other go off disgruntled.

I now only reply to newbie type threads if have the time as it normally involves so carefully worded answers otherwise someone jumping down your throat ;). Not that it bothers me I am always up from some healthy debate :D.

Sometimes people just write SIAL if it's been done before - New Bees must wonder WTF that is on about :o

scooby_si 07 June 2003 07:14 PM

i always try & help the newbies out as i occasionally have an answer that is useful for the newbie it's when a hard question gets asked i fall short http://smilies.crowd9.com/contrib/ed/wink2.gif now how'd i do those smilies..... lol
Seriously thou it can be daunting at first & a FAQ etc wood certainly help for the basic & popular questions but it's like going to the meets for the 1st time u need a friendly face to break u in so a bit of empathy wood b nice rather than ppl jumpin in with slating but ho hum it's always easier said than dun init :D

I posted a thread about looking for a Scooby and wanting some advice which you've probably all had hundreds of times, but people still helped me out.

PS I am still looking........

When i first signed up i just went through all the topics reading bits. Only know/met a few members on here like Chrome, Arm and salsa king and also met the guy with the tsl 22b. Hopefully i will be able to meet alot more of you at Scooby Shootout

Turbo_Steve 07 June 2003 11:42 PM

OMG Look! A scooby in a lake! OMG like...wow! :D

TonyBurns 08 June 2003 01:02 AM

I feel its the "i need to race a cosworth, my car is quicker than a moped, my car only gets 22mpg...." type threads that you wonder why newbies are not embraced (it speaks for itself).
Normally its the opposite ("hi i have just purchased/going to purchase an impreza)" where you actually get good feedback........ :D
