Does anyone have a reference for what characters mean what in the Subaru VIN?

Cheers,
Nick.

and here's why... A colleague is buying a car from Motorpoint, and they've given him the VIN.

They say the car comes from Malta (OUTSIDE the Common EU area) but will have no troubles being serviced at a dealer.

I think this is "tosh" to be polite :D

The first digits are:

JF1GDAKD33G

The D confuses me, as does the A. If someone can confirm that this is a UK spec sourced from the EU then I'd appreciate it. He's getting a bit panicky now :D

Cheers,
Nick.

No idea if this helps Chiark.

VIN

Chiark, below the VIN is another code:-

VIN: xxxnnnxxxnnnxxxnnn
APPLIED MODEL: GC3AK3G

This applied model tells you which country it was built for.

For example the code above means:-

G = Series (ie Impreza)
C = Body Style (C is 4dr F is 5Dr)
3 = Engine size & wheel drive (usually 8 on turbo - 2ltr 4wd)
A = Model Year (A=93, B=94, C=95 ETC)
K = Destination (K= europe RHD, U=Australia etc)
3 = Trim grade (8 is turbo)
G = Trans & fuel (D = turbo & centre diff, G= Manual Trans, R=Auto)

Dunno if this helps?

You're all stars, cheers :D

Nothing to say "from Malta".

I'm a tad worried about how this chap will get on with servicing...

BOB.T 04 June 2003 03:45 PM

By my reckoning...

JF1: Passenger car, FHI made
G: Impreza
A: 2.0l AWD Turbo
K: RHD
D: DOHC Full time AWD 5 Speed MT
3: Full Time AWD Single Range
3 2003 MY
G: FHI Gunma

I can't find any mention of where the car is sold in the VIN.:)

nick,
is the answer here the 'certificate of conformity' ??
would it indicate that the origin is outside the Eu. i.e. not E
marked?? Personally, I wouldn't like to take the risk of not having that first years g'tee

cheers alan

this is where we need the 'importingimprezas' list :) :)
