Hello everyone,

just bought my first Subaru & I pick it up tomorrow night (can't wait). Over the years I've been driving mostly Golf GTi's and more recently a Fiat Coupe turbo but I can't wait to get behind the wheel of a 4 wheel drive turbo (come on). My first question is in regard to turbo timers. The car has the standard alarm, but what I want to know is is it possible to buy a turbo timer & attach it to the current alarm & if so has anyone got a clue as to how much these turbo timers are? & how much do they cost to fit?

You need to be a bit more specific with your question.
What car have you bought ?
Import / UK , classic /bugeye/ My03 - that type of thing may help you get your questions answered.
As for turbo timers and the standard alarm, I'm pretty sure they invalidate your Cat 1 certification, so check with your insurance company before buying one.

Just a thought , check your insurance is OK with a timer ,I seem to remember reading on here somewhere that some don't like them .

Strictly speaking, fitting a turbo timer will invalidate your theft insurance.

Your insurance will state that a Thatcham cat 1 alarm (or cat 2 immobiliser) needs to be fitted and working in order for theft insurance to be valid.

Fitting a turbo timer, even if it's a feature of the alarm, will invalidate the Thatcham approval of your alarm. No arguments, technically it does.

inform your insurance company, and see what they say. Note that turning on the blackjax feature of the concept 600 invalidates thatcham, but all insurance companies so far seem happy with that :D

Spend the last 5 minutes of your journey off boost and spend the money on performance upgrades ;)

seems like a fair answer - what would be your first performance upgrade? (an induction kit?)

A freeing flowing backbox is the best place to start - this releases some useful horsepower (if you get a de-cat centre in particular) but also makes the Impreza sound how it should with the flat four burble.

If you want more still then change the downpipe for either a de-cat or a sports cat and you will really notice the difference! :D

Get a clifford Concept 600, comes with a Turbo timer for an extra £15, so about £615 in total, also has loads of other cool features, like dual zone proximaty sensors :D

Get yourself along to the Northern Big One.
They wil be loads of people ther willing to dish out good advise,
And you may pick up a bargin on the suppliers stalls.
