I believe the problem is with the width of aftermarket ones as well as grip. There needs to be a minimum distance between the brake and gas pedal of 55mm (i think anyway) If using the sti ones or ones off the later model then they are the same size so I don't think it would be an issue, after all, didn't the sti ones come as standard on some cars anyway?

Fancy a new set of pedals for my MY00, but I've heard on this site, that there is a legal issue with this mod. Apparently, if a car is fitted with rubber pedals, ONLY rubber pedals can be used as replacements. This supposedly could have insurance & Old Bill consequences. Can anyone clarify the situation? Is it worth the aggro? Or do I worry too much? Thanks in advance.

Dont know, but I know my car (my00) is fitted with metal pedals :)

oh there are some rubber pads that sit on top, cant see what the difference would be really

good feel to them......footrest feels much more solid' also the feel of the brake pedal give much more feedback, aslo when braking hard there is no movement ok for heel and toe too...i fitted two little rubbers to the lip to stop any slip

and looks good too. they are easy to fit...used anti slip nuts and washers + threadlock (was a modification i made)

Hi mate, i had the metal STi pedals attached to my RB5, they did have rubber studs on them so there was plenty of grip!
I unfortunately wrote the car off a few months later and the Insurance company had no issues with the pedals as i was sent a cheque for the full amount of what the car was worth.
I believe the ones that are illegal are the ones without any rubber studs on them.

I've got STi pedeal in mine. They're flash enough and generally grip OK.

Don't stand in diesel at the petrol station and then try to use them without wiping your shoes though! In that situation, no grip whatsoever.

I got some STi pedals, only grumble I have is that my left foot catches on the foot rest when lifting off the clutch.

heel and toe is made easy as there's an extended lip from the accelerator across to the brake. first time out hilarity ensued, much rrrRRRRMMmmm as I breaked for the roundabout.

STi pedal set in my MY00.

Pedals with NO rubber grips are illegal for road use. The STi ones have pink rubber grips which makes them road legal. They fit a treat, look ace and feel much better than factory rubber ones.
