Well this must be coincidense, this is the same car that i have and the clutch has started to slip as well.

I also decided to get the fly wheel re-placed after talking to a few people about the clutch, it hasn't been done yet going in this week to get both.

I have a MY97 Catalunya, UK if you are wondering :). The clutch is about to die, so as well as replace it I thought i might as well get a lightened flywheel too.

Does anyone recommend any specfic ones I should go for.
I saw "Borg & Beck Clutch Kit" on the shop for 90 quid or so compared to 300+, is it any good?
Also, what is a good weight for a flywheel? I know that too light can cause grief. I don't do any track days with my car, just general road use, fairly hard driving sometimes.

Your help is much appreciated.

Dont no about the flywheel i just paid £30 to have it skimmed, but anyway were did u see this b&b clutch for £85. The details of this shop would do nicely as ive paid way over & im on clutch number 4.

i had an AP racing clutch fitted two months ago at TSL, after my std clutch was slipping like mad

for £900 i had an AP clutch & plate, STi release bearing, re-conditioed lightened and skimmed flywheel and some extras done whilst it was on the ramp.

i was initally quoted £800 for the complete clutch job, but a few extras took it up to £900. (subaru would have charged me neared to £1000 for a std UK turbo clutch without the lightened flywheel)

The difference after the AP was fitted was awsome & well worth it IMHO.

TSL = excellent customer service too.

I agree whith chris' had same fitted on my car + ss TSL gp a D/pipe + other bits, not cheap but excellent! service.

Borg and Beck is the same spec as the standard.

I think i'll have to go with the cheapy, can't be all bad, as my car had done 60k and I don't think its ever had a clutch before, its only had two previous owners and he told me what it had done, and I don't think a clutch was mentioned, so i'll be happy with that, and upgrade when I have the pennies. I know you can get you're flywheel lightened, but i only have the one car, and do not have the ability to have it taken off, sent away and wait for it to come back etc, so i'll have to get a new one and sell the old one to someone who can have it lightened.

30 quid! seems very cheap, please tell me it was not skimmed or whatever with a grinder, i've heard you can have it done for 100quid, and a guy i know offered to do mine for 40, but he used a grinder and i've been told this is a big no no by several people.

Im 100% sure they didnt use a grinder but a lathe instead, it removes an even surface of material. There must be a local eng company by you who could do a proper job. £100 sounds a bit to much, mind you there are so many places in eng company in brum. I personally wouldnt go for the grinder option even if everything else fails. Would it be better if you source a second hand flywheel and had that skimmed instead?

Well, i'm having a new clutch & lightened flywheel fitted on Friday. I believe the flywheel is around 8-8.5kg which is not to light but not too heavy i gather.

I'm visiting XtremeScoobies.ltd.uk who are in Essex, about 90'ish miles from me house. They seem nice enough, the guy even emailed me and informed me about cheap clutches but wasn't actually trying to sell me theres, just giving me info which I though was good.
So i'll give them ago and let every know what they are like etc. I spoke for a bit on the phone with them and he seemed nice enough, so hopefully all will go well.

I'm also having Dawes fitted Sat morning, going to run at 1.1 bar as opposed to the current 0.9 which should improve things a little :)

a 'skimmed' flywheel is a totally different animal to a properly "lightened" one........we do both and costs are around £25-35 (depending on damage) to skim and £100 for a lightened one
