Last year I drove from "Le Lavandou" (around the corner from St Tropez) up to St Malo in a day - that was an exciting journey....!!!

Thinking of driving down to the South of Frog land next winter , now do I take the Scooby (MY99) or do I take the Audi A4 (school run wagon ). Will I feel like I've been smacked around the ring (oh err missis!)by Mr Tyosn after 11 hours in the Scooby ?
Any thoughts /experience ? Thanks Dave . http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/co.../smilies27.gif |
IS the A4 a TD?
If so I'd be taking that... |
Why the need to say frog land
|
Talizman..no it's a 1.8T (A tad more economical me thinks )

Reguarly drive the 850km or so from down to Switzerland in the scoob (MY99 with standard wheels / suspension) with no comfort problems.
It only takes about 6 1/2 hours on a good day though, so doesn't really compare to the trip you have in mind. Have fun and give my regards to the frogs! ;) Suresh |
Driven from Skye to Essex a couple times...12 hours is the longest one-day trip I've done. Thats in a 22B with harrrrrd suspension and short gearing too. Not a problem.

Last summer my Frog (Sandy, a French lass) and I drove from UK through LeMans, to Brodeaux, then up and over Andorra, wicked roads, and the noise of that exhaust was amazing bouncing off those mountain passes. Then stayed in Andorra for one night. Next day we drove to Barcelona in two hours:eek: Mighty impressed with that. We were flying literally, the last stretch which is motorway was like a twisting country road, and the view, amazing. Then we took the Cat to Mallorca, where we stayed for a week.
On our way back we drove up through Spain, to Lyon, then Calais and home. Total distance travelled 2500miles. And we absolutely loved being in the Scoob, no discomfort at all, even on the first leg that was a good 12hrs. We always cruised on the autoroutes between 110-120mph and returned an average over the whole trip of 22mpg. In fact the car is so much smoother at those kind of speeds, and the French, Spanish drivers always pull over for you, no outside lane hogging, in fact when we did encounter bad driving it was always a British car. Take the Scoob, it’s the only choice. Mrk  |
Recently did SE England to South Western Portugal for the 5th time as I have family there. A few diversions around Spain and the Perigord region saw me do in excess of 3500 miles.
My car is an older classic wagon and had no problems in it whatsoever comfort wise. Stopping all the time to refuel started to become a pain in the butt after the first 5 times. Other than that driving over there is a pleasure. |
I drove my STi7 to Italy via France, Germany and Austria last Summer (in 34+ degree temperatures), and was perfectly comfortable all the time. Managed to get super unleaded all the way as well :D

I once drove a ppp Subaru p1 WRx Sti mkiv i turbo from one end of my disgusting street a full 100metres to the other end. I counted no less than 12 galswegian tramps pissing themselves laughing at me. I got out and walked.
As far as I know the car is still there and no-one has even bothered to vandalise it they hate it so much. |
450 miles in one go, stopped for fuel and to drain the weasel once.
Did 1500 miles in three 1/3 days, no problems, car just wanted to be driven |
Thanks to you all ...take the Scooby ....Hmmm it's sounding tempting !

As far as cars go, my Scoob has been to the S of France twice, and I loved it both times. It gets SO much attention over there. Alcazar |

Don't be so quick to jump on the politically correct bandwagon (faster than a P/C saloon apparently) Mr Sticks could have meant he was going to an amphibian themed amusement park. Regards Dave |
I drove mine round the corner..... ;):D

I think we covered almost 2000 miles in 10 days last year when we drove down for the Catalunya Rally. Ferry across to Santander and then a 6 or 7 hour drive down to the coast. Loads of miles during the event and then obviously drove back :) Car didn't miss a beat.

Taken the P1 to Portugal twice, via Spain, and then to Finland via Sweden. Fantastic journeys and the car handled superbly.
