Mainly looking for answers about brakediscs in standard size (the sport japan disc and the 40 groove I think it is). Thanks Claus |
I rate the very well, I have the 6pot tarox calipers and 40 groove discs fitted with fast road pads, gone through about 3 sets of pads in about 30k hard driving.. discs slowly ont heir way out...

Snap same here, even if pads only last 10,000 miles but
at £90 a set thats not too bad. 10,000 miles includes two full track days. |
Cheers,
i´ve got the six-pot caliper and the g88 discs (40 grooves, 328mm). After 37000 km (don´t know in miles) they are doing fine. Maybe i´ll need them replaced next year. ah...i use ds2500 pads. |
Go for 40 grooves. Sport Japan is only for tuning not really for hard driving.
Or if you have 4pots buy metal ceramic disc and sintered pads for cca 1400,-€ :D Ultrasharp response, amazing performance and damaged rear bumper ;) |
Thanks guys. You are the best.
Should mention that I´m looking for brakes for every day driving mixed with a little track day racing. Will the 40 groove combined with some good pads (like Ferodo) be good for this. I´m a little concerned about the 40 groove as I think they have less material for the pads to bite on than e.g. the sport japan disc. My theory is that the more material on the brake disc the better. I know that the slots clean the pad and went out gasses and drain a little water. Will a slotted/drilled disc give as good bite as a normal disc or maybe even better? Claus |
Slotted with improve on a solid disk. instantly you feel more bite
and less fade. |
I had Tarox grooved and drilled (can't remember the type) on my Gti-6 and they were pants! I did 7,000 miles and they were warped to hell and back and I teach advanced driving so no abuse that they should'nt have handled, when I contacted Tarox to complain they suggested that I have them "SKIMMED"!! At nearly £200 a pair they were the dearest discs I had bought thinking I would pay the extra for the "quality" Never again, I went back to Black Diamond combi as fitted to my old Cossie and no problems. Just to add that I might have got a rogue pair cos everyone else reckons they are good,

Most recommend grooved only for track/hard use rather than
drilled and Grooved. Think you have been unlucky some times disc pad mix can ruin your discs, for some reason EBC pads have this reputation. |
